I have been looking for a marketing consultant for 2 months, and only had 3 resume's. One person was really clueless, one didnt show up for the interview, and the third I offered the job to. She was currently working part time, and just out of college with her degree in Advertising/PR. I offered her the job at $35,000+, benefits after 30 days, flexible hours 8-5 (as long as she was making her goals, she could come and go as she pleased). She turned it down flat out, didnt even want to counter. here is my ad, is there something wrong with it:

Working with existing clients, and developing new clients. Prior sales experience is preferred but not requires. A qualified candidate must have excellent written and verbal skills, be organized, and passionate about success. Apply with a resume in person at
I took out the where to apply for the nest, because i didnt want to get flagged for putting any ads on here. TIA
Re: Something wrong with my ad
As someone with a marketing and advertising background the only thing that stands out to me is that it really isn't a marketing job. It's sales. Is that true? Perhaps she applied and then realized that it's a sales position.
If so, I'd work on clarifying the description so it is clear what the job entails. I'd also broaden your scope of posting. I agree with you that it is surprising you received only three applicants. My office has will frequently receives hundreds of applicants for entry level openings.
Where did you advertise? You should have received far more than 3 resumes. Perhaps the requirement to apply in person threw people for a loop. Most applications are submitted by email theses days. If you add an email address I think you will have better luck.
Also, you have a typo. You said "requires" instead of "required". Not to be rude, but I wouldn't apply for a job that had a typo in the ad.
If you advertise on Craigslist try adding it to multiple categories besides just advertising/marketing.
Sorry I was typing quickly when i retyped it. The origional ad did not have the typo. The job is sales, but consists of Television and Internet. I did have my e-mail address as well on there, I just didnt put it onto the nest, because I didnt want people to think I was putting advertising on here. I tried our local job service, internet sites, local news paper, and ran ads on our stations and website.
The main issue is people from other areas who might be intersted in the job are not applying because we just dont have housing available here for people to live.
I agree with PPs that you are positioning it as a marketing job, when it is actually sales. As someone in marketing, it is really frustrating to see these types of job postings. There is a difference between marketing and sales. So someone who is in sales, probably thinks, oh I don't have the marketing background and those in marketing don't want to do sales.
I'd update it to a sales position on post it on places where people look for sales positions.
I'm also confused by this statement "the job is sales, but consists of television and internet" what does that mean? Is it ad sales?
I don't have to much to add that other posters stated - either place it in other categories or clarify the position you are offering.
I also would not apply to a job that required me to apply in person, especially one via Craigslist (did you see the recent Craigslist stuff in I believe Ohio where 3 people died responding to an ad?)
Do you state that benefits will be offered after 30 days? Maybe add something to that nature.
yes, it is ad sales. As someone who has worked in the Marketing field for 13 years, I dont know how anyone could sell TV advertising without a marketing background. You need to know how to market your product before you can sell it to people.
Can you elaborate on this for me? I guess I do not see them having the option to bring a resume in or e-mail it ( i took the e-mail out due to not wanting to advertise on the nest).

I totally agree with this also. I was a marketing major (before going to law school) and I can't even tell you how many times this happened to me when I was applying for internships. I would go for a job which billed itself as marketing and it ended up being sales. It was totally frustrating, because I had no desire to do sales. And I'm betting that people with marketing experience see through the ad and know it is a sales position, and they are not interested.
Another ditto to this. Of course sales needs to know how to market the product, but it is NOT marketing. Two different things. I do marketing, not sales.
If you have 13 years of experience in marketing, I'm kinda shocked that you aren't able to see what's wrong with your own ad.
Your ad sounds like it's one of those scammy sales things.
Change it to reflect the actual job (advertising sales) and include desired qualifications and experience.
Here's an example of an ad sales job I grabbed from the web. See the difference between it (and the type of resumes it will likely receive) vs. yours?
