I'm really curious and need to know what is a reasonable amount.
On Saturday I went shopping and got a bit excited.... when I got home and assessed the situation I was offended with myself that I spent so much.
My rationale: My parents go crazy on them, my in laws buy presents for everyone in the family (I bought 23 presents on dh's side alone) so the girls always get a ton of stuff. It seem like they get something and then only show interest in it for a few minutes then move on to the next thing.
The practical person in me wants to take the expensive stuff back and put money into their college account.
K's wish list was Barbie hair/ makeup. She showed me what she wanted and it was this toy for $6.00. I bought this present and a few other things for her.
It is the big ticket items I am questioning.
What is a reasonable amount to spend?
Re: How much do you spend on xmas for your kids?
I don't really go with a price. In the past we just got E one present. She gets enough from the rest of the family, and she doesn't really know. This year I went a little overboard, and she has 9 gifts from us, but they are all smaller things I got either at garage sales or consignment sales. I don't think you need to worry about a price, just what is a reasonable amount that they will actually appreciate and use.
I have no idea this year.
Dh bought some, I bought some, we bought some together. I think we're spoiling her this year.
On a funny note- E and Ian received a check from my grandpa for Christmas. E opened up the card and saw the checks and told us "I can go to college now!". It was hilarious. She is picking up on her older cousin looking at colleges.

They get one from us and one and stockings from Santa (no gift from each other this year for them). Generally, I spend about $100 each. Maren's only thing she asked for this year is a DS, so I spent a little more on her.
Dude, spill the beans....What the heck did you buy C?!!!
This!
We don't buy the kids much throughout the year so Christmas DH feels is the time to splurge more on the kids. There isn't a lot of toys since they are getting older so their stuff is costing a little more.
We know S will not truly understand Christmas and what is happening, so we only didn't go crazy on him plus I've lost count because some of it we bought for his birthday coming up in February.
But again, we are light for birthdays and do not really get them anything during the year. I think if we were heavy on birthdays and bought stuff during the year we would be lighter on Christmas.
Last year, when Audrey was one, we didnt buy her anything. Both my parents and Ryan's parents go CRAZY at Christmas.
This year we bought her a couple big things from Santa and it was around $130 total. Really, I only did this because we are driving home from DH's parents house on xmas morning and when we get home I want her to see that "Santa" stopped at the house and left her gifts.
I have a feeling that once our kids are older we're going to be one of those families who goes way overboard. Both our parents did when we were kids, and still do. I bet my parents spent $600-$700 on each one of me and my siblings each year.. it's bad!
