Reclaiming my name

I am officially back to my maiden name! YAY!

Now DD and I have the same last name since I was smart enough to not give in to my X and IL's request and gave her my maiden name at birth.

A rose may smell as sweet with another name, but I promise it FEELS better being called a rose.

Re: Reclaiming my name

  • That's great you didn't put his last name on her BC.  I'm so happy you were able to go back to your maiden name.  I did too and it's a great feeling.  DS' last name is hyphenated but I so wish I had only put my maiden name on the BC and left off XH's.

They see us rollin'...they be hatin'.
  • I love having my name back. It seems like a little thing but it really isn't

  • Yay! Even though I have an extremely uncommon last name, and everyone butchers it, I love having MY name back. There is just something about it that is just me.

  • YAY!

  • That's great! I would love to get mine back, but both of my kids have their dad's last name. I just don't FEEL like a ____ anymore. They have made it clear that I'm not a part of their family, and I hate what the name represents. I'm glad you're feeling like "a rose" again!
She's crafty - and she's just my type.
  • I can't wait for this.  I've stopped using my last name in any scenario that I can get away with it lol  I hate even hearing people say it because I just don't want to be labeled as his anymore.
  • Yay! The second I kicked him out I started using my maiden name as much as possible haha.

Me too! Considering I had only changed it 1 month before we split, most places never even knew I had another name, unless there was legal paperwork/ID checking.

  • I'm not sure if you were married or not, but if so, is it an option to not give the child your husband's name if you're married.  I am separated and due in February.  I plan on going back to my maiden name, so I would love to give my daughter my maiden name as well but didn't think that was an option.

Yes. I was married and gave DD my maiden name. You can give you child any last name you want.

Sorry, I realized that was a stupid question after I wrote it, but it was too late to delete.  If it's your maiden name, obviously you were married.  Sorry, my brian is a bi foggy these days between pregnancy and stress.  Anyway, that's great to know.  I didn't realize I had that choice.
