I shoplifted

Accidently, I promise.

Went to grocery store on Sunday night.  Got stuff for food this week as well as DH's grandparent's xmas present. Placed present (very large) in bottom of cart and left without paying for it.  I thought the total seemed pretty low and even at my next stop looked at the receipt but couldn't quite pinpoint the issue.  Until I got home.

50% of me thinks I should go back and pay, the other 50% thinks I shouldn't....

DH is worried the gift is now cursed, what to do, what to do...

  • LOL, if it's large I would go ahead and call them and offer to pay.

  • $25 - that's it.

    Go pay?

  • I'd call and offer to pay, but not make a special trip to do so. If you can't pay over the phone, just do so the next time you go in.

My grandparents recently "stole" two front new doors and all of the hardware from Home Depot. The stockboys loaded them up and each thought the other had gone inside to pay when, in reality, both went inside to go to the bathroom.

They realized it a few days later, called and offered to pay. The store was super confused, so they made a special trip back. The manager thanked them for their honestly, charged them for only one of the two doors as a "reward", and thanked them for their honesty.

  • Yeah, for $25 I would just call and see what they say to do. They might appreciate the honesty and just let you have it.

  • I'd call and see what they'd like you to do.  That would at least relieve any guilt you may have about it (or your H has about it!).

    this.

BUT, last week, we were at Target and M picked up a (broken) toy from the dollar spot and carried it around the store.  At some point, she stuck it in the stroller and I didn't notice until I was unloading at the car.  I almost didn't but I felt really guilty for stealing the stupid $1 broken train, so we went back in and put it back.

  • Yeah, I'd go back and pay for it. I spent too many years in retail hell to not.
