WWYD? Commission vs. salary, etc.

I started in a new position (new to me and new to the company) in July of this year. Over the past few months, based on my performance and the direction of the company, I've had a number of new responsibilities added to my plate. Most notably, starting on January 1st, I will be responsible for a 6-figure business development goal for 2012. This "sales" piece of my job is new and was not intended in the original job description.

I'm very excited about the new parts of my job and feel strongly I will excel at them, however, I'm concerned because I can't get a straight answer regarding commission. Our other, more seasoned consultants, receive a straight commission based on their revenue as well as a percentage of their billable hours. Our CEO and my VP (my boss) have both told me they would, "Never allow me to bring in revenue without being compensated for it." But there still has not been a move to sign a new compensation agreement or put anything in writing.

I love the company I work for, but I'm not going to trust my salary to anyone with just a "handshake." WWYD? Should I push the issue? Or just hope that they'll compensate me fairly when I bring in business?

As a side note, I am financially stable enough to leave this job at any time, and if there came a time when I were not compensated for revenue brought in, I would do that.

Thoughts???
