Londoners: please rec your doctor
Long story short, I need to go to the EU for an IUD bc I can't have it done in the US.
Can anyone recommend a gynocologist or midwife (anyone that can get and insert an IUD) in London? I'm going to be staying in central London, so somewhere around there or somewhere easy to get to via tube or taxi would be ideal.
Thank you!
Re: Londoners: please rec your doctor
From what I've read from other sites I can make an appointment somewhere and pay out of pocket? Is this not the case?
ETA: I see that you're in England. If I can't do that, would you know how I can get this done while I'm over there?
I am fairly certain you will have to go private to do this. I would look at The Portland Hospital or somewhere on Harley Street - http://www.harleystreetguide.com/doctors/. I don't know if you could just walk in and get it or if you have to have private insurance. This whole thing seems so odd if you don't live in the UK though.
I've never heard of getting anything done here by paying out of pocket. Maybe if you're an EU citizen? Not sure on that though.
To get an IUD, from what I know, you need to register with a GP and schedule it to be done. When you register you need to prove you're legally here and you have to provide proof of address.
I appreciate the recommendation!
I'm more than willing to pay for this out of pocket and in cash if need be, but I also have insurance in the US, but I don't think that counts for anything there.
The reason that I have to go to the UK is because I'm looking to get an IUD that isn't available in the US (yet) and the IUD's that are available in the US don't work for my body. My US doctor recommended that I go abroad to get a smaller IUD inserted since the FDA is still about 3 years away from approving the one that I need. I have asked my doctor for a recommendation, but her drug rep is on vacation for the holidays and won't be back for a while.
I have a private gyn who I LOVE. I know he would do an IUD as he discussed putting one in me even though I do not have children.
His name is Mr. Graham Barker, I see him at London Bridge Hospital which is at London Bridge tube.

When I get the letter from my insurance it's about ?175 per appt. just to talk to him not him doing an internal or anything. You would have to pay for the insertion and the IUD as well. I think you would have to see him once to discuss your history etc and then see him again to insert the IUD, but I could be wrong.
The first appt. is an hour so you will get to talk a great deal. This does not include taking your clothing off.

I'm emailing him now.
Thank you so much!
You are correct your insurance will not work here.
Do you have the name we could look up the cost if you like?

It's a Mirena brand IUD, but there's a smaller size. I don't think the smaller size has a special name.
I appreciate your help so much!
If it is a global insurance it could work in the UK but that generally only is for expats. It is worth looking into though.
