Christmas Ornament Poll

So, in taking out the Christmas ornaments, there are emotions with them... some happy and nostalgic, some fond but sad and a few... just sad. I pulled out my Mickey/Minnie "Our First Christmas Together 2009" ornament... didn't even remember it was in there... wont bore you with the details of the emotions with that but I'm sure you can imagine. That being said:

1. Do you have a favorite Christmas ornament (or two or three)?

2. Do you have a "theme" or color scheme for your tree or is it pretty random?

3. Do you decorate like your family or put your own spin on it?

4. What do you do for strands... lights, beads, garland, popcorn?

5. How do you decorate... with music, with others, all at once or little by little?

Re: Christmas Ornament Poll

  • I didn't get a tree last year so this is my first year putting one up since being single... and though it's semi-enjoyable, it's also sad...

    1. Do you have a favorite Christmas ornament (or two or three)? I had a favorite Christmas ornament but when J packed my stuff after leaving me, it broke... it was of Mickey, Goofy and Donald and it was musical. Other than that one, I have two... one that is a picture of a little puppy on a sled going downhill with his ears back... it was my mom's and I loved it so much putting it up every single year, that she gave it to me. The other is one my sister gave to me after my grandma died... of a beautiful piano music box that plays "Fur Elise," which my grandma taught me to play on the piano.

    2. Do you have a "theme" or color scheme for your tree or is it pretty random? I think I have MOSTLY silver/blue/sparkly but over the last few years, I've included a lot more red/gold b/c it's beautiful so now it's more varied. I dont have a theme or anything I do specific but I do have glittery snowflakes that I put all over as well as these little Christmas potpourri baskets that my great grandma made 20+ years ago...

    3. Do you decorate like your family or put your own spin on it? I used to decorate while Jesse was home doing something else. He helped me with the beads but left most of the decorating to me. Now, I'm decorating alone but A helped me get the tree and bring it in... kinda wishing he was here tonight...

    4. What do you do for strands... lights, beads, garland, popcorn? I have white/silvery strands of beads, I love them. I also have strands of multi-colored lights. I prefer white lights but didn't want to go spend a bunch of money this year so stuck with what I had... will stock up in the after Christmas sales.

    5. How do you decorate... with music, with others, all at once or little by little? So far I've been doing little by little... I wish I had started last weekend, lol, but I procrastinated... hopefully it'll actually be done by the time Christmas Eve gets here, lol. I am watching Christmas movies while decorating, wishing my family was here... or someone. :)

  • 1. Do you have a favorite Christmas ornament (or two or three)? J got me one from our first Christmas as a married couple that has says "2009" and says, "The love that brought us together will stay in our hearts forever." I also have an ornament with Ralphie from A Christmas Story in his pink bunny suit. When you hit the post it plays snippets from the movie. I also love all of our travel ones-so many memories. :)

    2. Do you have a "theme" or color scheme for your tree or is it pretty random? It's random and I love it!

    3. Do you decorate like your family or put your own spin on it? My parents always had more of a sentimental tree as opposed to a "themed" tree. I loved it and J and I do the same with ours.

    4. What do you do for strands... lights, beads, garland, popcorn? Lights...I'm picking up some garland after Christmas for next year.

    5. How do you decorate... with music, with others, all at once or little by little? J and I put on a Christmas movie and decorate the tree together. Then I'll put all of our other decorations up myself. He says "I do it better". hahaha

  • 1. Do you have a favorite Christmas ornament (or two or three)? I love them all! I think my favorites are some that we painted together when Alex first moved in with us.

    2. Do you have a "theme" or color scheme for your tree or is it pretty random? It's totally random. All of our ornaments have sentimental value and there is no rhyme or reason to them.

    3. Do you decorate like your family or put your own spin on it? I decorate a lot like we did growing up. It's a family affair with music and light hearted banter. And, out Xmas tree is a total hodgepodge of stuff. In fact, many of our ornaments came from my childhood tree.

    4. What do you do for strands... lights, beads, garland, popcorn? We have a prelit tree and some gold beads that Will likes and some crocheted Christmas yarn that Will made.

    5. How do you decorate... with music, with others, all at once or little by little? Usually all at once (pretty hard with a newborn though) and listening to Alex's Christmas mix which is Twisted Sister's Christmas album and sometimes regae Christmas.

  • Do you have a favorite Christmas ornament? I do now. We just got one last week from our teach at our early childhood class. She made it and it has a picture of Eli at class in it.

Do you have a "theme" or color scheme for your tree or is it pretty random? We have a color. It used to always be silver and blue but this year I switched to all red and gold except the ornament with eli's picture on it.

Do you decorate like your family or put your own spin on it? I decorate a lot like my mom. Except I only have the top half of my tree decorated because Eli wants to take all the "balls" down.

What do you do for strands... lights, beads, garland, popcorn? We have white lights and then I put on ribbon usually. This year I don't have any though and my tree looks bare.

How do you decorate... with music, with others, all at once or little by little? We do it all at once. we put the Christmas music on and stick Eli in the box the tree is in so he can play and not helping.

  • 1. Do you have a favorite Christmas ornament (or two or three)? I absolutely adore my panda ornaments my aunt got me in Japan.

    2. Do you have a "theme" or color scheme for your tree or is it pretty random? It's pretty random right now.

    3. Do you decorate like your family or put your own spin on it? We definitely put our own spin on things.

    4. What do you do for strands... lights, beads, garland, popcorn? This year we have some red garland. In years past we have done thick gold ribbon.

    5. How do you decorate... with music, with others, all at once or little by little? Steve and I have always decorated for Christmas together. We do it all at once as soon after Thanksgiving as we can. Sometimes we have music, others we don't.

  • 1. Do you have a favorite Christmas ornament (or two or three)?  I can't say I have a favourite.  I love all of ours that we've picked up on our travels

    2. Do you have a "theme" or color scheme for your tree or is it pretty random?  Nope, totally random.  We have a mixture of assorted Christmas balls and we always buy a tree ornament every time we travel somewhere.  Some of them are pretty interesting when you can't find an actual ornament we buy something that can work as an ornament.

    3. Do you decorate like your family or put your own spin on it?  Mostly like my family, except we have a fake tree so don't use the tinsel because then I'd have to take every strand off piece by piece.

    4. What do you do for strands... lights, beads, garland, popcorn?  We have white lights that are built in to the tree.  I also put gold and silver garland and silver beads.

    5. How do you decorate... with music, with others, all at once or little by little?  Crank up the christmas tunes.  I do the garland and beads first then DH comes and helps put the ornaments on and we reminisce about our travels.

  • This is the first year we've put a tree up at home.

    1.  I don't have any favorite ornaments.  All 'my' ornaments are still at my parents' house.

    2.  I love color themed trees so much more than the 'random' ones.  I'm sure that makes me very un-sentimental, but I like the way it looks so much better, and always have.  This year, my tree is blue and gold (GO RACERS!!), we might pick up some silver/white decorations for next year and have a UK tree.

    3.  My mom has always done a 'random' tree with multicolored lights (which I hate) and all the ornaments everyone has collected over the years.  Maybe I'll appreciate that more when I get older, but I'm just letting her hold onto those for now.  I can see me eventually having 2 trees once we have a house, one formal color-themed one, and one with all the other ornaments on it.

    4.  I have white lights.  I also have ribbon that has a gold tone to it.  And a big bow on top.  I love trees with ribbon on them.

    5.  I enlisted H to help me actually put the tree up and the lights on it, but I did the decorating by myself because I'm a little OCD about where stuff goes.  I could do it by myself, though.

  • 1. Do you have a favorite Christmas ornament (or two or three)?I love the ornaments my mother started collecting for me when I  was younger.  They are designed by a man named Christopher Radko, and they are made in Poland.  I also love collecting ornaments from our vacations.  I have starfish in bikinis, a real mini pineapple from our honeymoon, moose in canoes, whale carved wood ornaments, etc.2. Do you have a "theme" or color scheme for your tree or is it pretty random?no, not really.3. Do you decorate like your family or put your own spin on it?  Mine is pretty similar to my mom's.4. What do you do for strands... lights, beads, garland, popcorn? It's all about the popcorn!  I actually keep it from year to year because it takes forever to strand, and it looks just like new. The popcorn is nice and light, so it doesn't weigh any branches down.  We also put colored lights on before anything else.5. How do you decorate... with music, with others, all at once or little by little?I usually do most of it by myself, hopefully in one day, with a holiday program on tv.  DH usually puts a couple ornaments on too, where I can't reach. And of course, the kitties help to make sure I put their favorite glittery cupcake ornament on the bottom branch so they don't play with any of the others.  They love to sit under the lights :)

  • 1. Do you have a favorite Christmas ornament (or two or three)? Not really, I love them all!

    2. Do you have a "theme" or color scheme for your tree or is it pretty random? All of our ornaments are round & sparkly. They are all different colors!

    3. Do you decorate like your family or put your own spin on it? No, both of our families use big colored lights and have quite the eclectic collection of ornaments. Our tree is very uniform and we have small white lights.

    4. What do you do for strands... lights, beads, garland, popcorn? Small white lights

    5. How do you decorate... with music, with others, all at once or little by little? We set up the tree while watching White Christmas, drinking hot chocolate, and just having family time with no distractions. We decorate everything Thanksgiving night or Black Friday night depending on where we are for Thanksgiving.
