I'm finalizing my maternity leave plans and I *think* I have it figured out, but I need a reality check. ![]()
I have about 8-9 weeks paid total. DD is due 2/2, but I am most likely headed for a scheduled RCS the week before that. So far, my plan is to take off from the 23rd of Jan. (so I have a few extra days before the RCS to get the house in gear and just relax) until April. So, 10 weeks total. After that, I plan on working 3 days a week and taking Mondays/Fridays off until May, so for 5 more weeks. That way, I'll use up my whole 12 weeks of FMLA, but we won't ahve to take a huge financial hit all at once. And, my boss is thrilled, because it means that even though I won't be around in April/May to do some things, I will be able to keep us caught up on others.
Does that sound reasonable?
Re: Help with maternity leave plans...
Sounds like a good plan to me! I think going back part time at first is definitely preferable if you can swing it, it helps to ease that transition and to allow for any challenges that might pop up. When I went back to work with DD I ended up having to work slightly shorter days the first couple weeks to nurse her because she wouldn't take a bottle, and that wasn't part of my plan.
I just found out that since my maternity leave will cross the fiscal year, I will be eligible for another round of FMLA leave after July 1. I still plan on going back after 3 months (I don't think my boss or our bank account would be happy otherwise) but I had no idea!
By the way, you know we get 13 weeks FMLA at the state instead of 12, right?
See, I thought it was 13, but I keep being told 12. All the documents say 13....
That's awesome if you need to take extra time after July though!
Yes, it is 13 weeks or 520 hours per fiscal year. This is just for state employees, otherwise it is usually 12 weeks in CO.
