Related to the book post below...need help!

I want to start reading again once i start my new job in January and ACTUALLY have some time to do things for myself! Problem is....i haven't read a book in QUITE SOME TIME. It's pathetic actually.
I haven't read a single book cover-to-cover since before I started this job, and before that, I was in college so the only books I read were scientific books, math books, astronomy books (mostly non-fiction), or science fiction stuff. As you can see, im pretty much a geek.
I think the last things I actually read fully was up to book 5 of the Harry Potter series (yup, never finished them), and that's clearly not even an "adult" book.
So what can you ladies suggest to me that would be a fairly easy but interesting read to start off with? I don't like romances or boring stuff? I like adventure and mystery, books that keep my interest and ones that I can learn from, like if they make me think or are based off of scientific knowledge/possibility.

  • I know that a lot of people have been excited about the Hunger Games trilogy. That sounds like it might be right up your alley.

  • First, I suggest you finish the Harry Potter series.  Don't worry about it not being for adults, I have read a ton of YA books this year and love them!

I also recommend The Hunger Games trilogy.  See my post below.

    Here are some other suggestions:

    Sister by Rosamund Lupton- mystery

A Discovery of Witches- yes there are witches, vampires, etc., but there is a lot of science and history in it.

  • So lately I've been seeing two books on tv that may be up your alley. I haven't read them myself, but the commercials are intriguing :)

    Kill Alex Cross- Steven King

The other I believe it titled "Fire" but I can't for the life of me remember the author- I will get back to you on this!

Kill Alex Cross and Fire are both by the same author, James Patterson.  The first is for adults, the other is for teens.

Do you have to have read the other Alex Cross books to get into this one?

I would.  While most of the story probably stands alone, there are details from previous stories mentioned.

However, if you like mysteries, I recommend the Women's Murder Club books over the Alex Cross books.  All the books have numbers in the title.  The first is "1st to Die."
