Re: diabetic?

  • I'll try and call you tonight.  I have a list of great websites.  The key is balance.  You can't avoid carbs but they must be balanced with protein. Eaing every few hours helps keep blood sugar stable.  No skipping meals or snacks.

  • When my mother was pre-diabetic, she was told that she could prevent becoming completely diabetic with diet and exercise.

Medically speaking, I don't know how true that is or if it's just another case of the world according to Flossie.

that is almost verbatum what the nurse told dh.  I think it's time for a nutritionist.

I'd start him on the ADA diet and get him exercising a few times a week like the others said. That's honestly the best advice right now. If he's willing I've seen glucometers and test strips sold OTC so he could monitor his blood glucose. If you can think of anything specific, let me know. I'm having a hard time coming up with anything else at the moment. Too tired.

My mom was also told this, upped her exercise, cut out refined carbs and did what her dietician said and is no longer at risk, so it can be done! She definitely made a big lifestyle change to make it happen, though.

  • Check out dlife.com for more info and some good recipes. It is not the end of the world to have diabetes, but if you can keep them at bay, life is so much easier. Good luck! Let me know if you have any more questions, I might be able to help some, though I am far from an expert.
