Items for the recovery period after delivery?
I've been so focused on things that the baby will need that I haven't really put much thought into what to have on hand for myself (nothing like waiting to the last minute, right?) during my recovery time.
The only things I bought are some heavy duty maxi pads and some baby wipes (for myself) because a friend said it was much better than using TP during the first few days after birth with her stiches (sorry, I know that's TMI).
Is there anything else I should have on hand that will make recovery more bearable?
Re: Items for the recovery period after delivery?
If you're planning on bfing, definitely get some Lansinoh cream and gel pads to help prevent cracking/bleeding, and to help alleviate the pain. After I had Jake, I had to buy a doughnut cushion due to pushing for 3 hours
(. For Katie, I didn't need one at all and only pushed 3 times so it was very different, you never know.
Also ask for a prescription for pain meds before you leave the hospital!

I have to say thank god for Dermoplast, They gave it to me at the hospital, a antiseptic spray, I didn't realize how badly it was going to sting when I had to pee (Sorry if TMI), Honestly, that hurt worse than my stitches, I would spray myself, and spray the maxi pad, it was the only thing that cooled the stinging I had.
Other than that I went and bought a super comfy pair of PJ pants I wore the whole time I was in the hospital.
Pretty much all you need can be obtained from the hospital; if they don't give it to you, ask for it! Things I took home from the hospital: giant pads, pads with built-in ice packs, mesh undies, peri bottles (ask for 2 if you have 2 bathrooms in your house), lanolin cream, soothies gel pads, absorbent breast pads. I also got a prescription for narcotic painkillers because I can't take NSAIDs due to a stomach condition.
I was told not to use lanolin cream from my lactation consultant-- everyone I know lately has ended up with prescription stuff APNO that is absolutely amazing. It is so much better than lanolin.
I took most of the stuff from the hospital and switched over to some lighter weight maxis by 1 1/2 to 2 weeks I think (I could have done it sooner but I was nervous).
I did take ducolax stool softener twice a day for the first few days after I got home... it was good to have on hand. I didn't need prescription strength pain meds.
Make sure you still have some colace on hand. I didn't need it that soon after delivery but it helped to soften things up, which of course makes it easier, and less painful during healing.
I think you have it covered. Kimberly is so right about 2 peri bottles! I wish I had 2. Since my supply issues, I like to make sure that I tell peeps to be prepared and have at least 1 bottle on hand and some formula.
Good luck!!
