Re: s/o Poll for fun

  • As I was growing up we had to take music lessons. I started when I was in 2nd grade, it was ok at first but I hated it soon after. My parents had asked me if I wanted to or not and since I choose to they weren't going to let me quit.

Over the years I've learned how to play: Organ, Piano, recorder, and Panflute.

  • I can sort of play the flute. The rest of my family are very musically proficient. I kind of feel like the odd one out.

  • I took piano lessons from when I was in Grade 1 in school (or maybe it was Grade 2) until I was in Grade 7 in school. I still play off and on. I was one of those band kids in high school and played percussion (usually I played the xylophone or the glockenspiel). DH plays the guitar, so he taught me a few chords a few years ago, but I don`t really remember any of it. And I`m in the choir at my church (but singing doesn`t really count as a musical instrument).

  • None unfortunately.  I took piano for a couple years when I was quite young, but didn't like it so I quit and mostly played sports.

  • I can play the recorder, violin, and upright bass. I used to sing second soprano and alto in youth choir at church and in my high school chorus.
  • DH and I can make a two person band.

    I play:

piano, flute, french horn, mellophone, trumpet, flugelhorn, vibraphone, marimba, and a couple other percussion instruments.

    DH plays:

bassoon, clarinet, trumpet, soprano, baritone, euphonium, trombone, tuba/contrabass, mellophone, piano, bass clarinet, and probably a couple other instruments I don't know of...

Is it a shocker that's how we met?!?!?

  • I can pick stuff out on the piano.  If we had a piano, I could probably do more.  Completely self-taught.

I was a percussionist in band, so I can do keyboards (xylophone/marimba/vibes), tympani (MY FAVORITE!), all the other little toys and things.  I can do some on the snare drum, but when my middle school director found out I could read music, he pretty much stuck me there and never let me learn the finer snare techniques.

I'm a big time choir nerd.  I sing Alto.  And my dream job would be to sing in a professional choir.  Like, would make CD recordings for composers and sing on movie soundtracks and sing with the best symphonies in the world.

And, because I've always wanted to learn to play a wind instrument, and my H is a middle school band director, we've decided that he's going to teach me to play something.  Either French horn or baritone.  I's excited.

    You forgot snare drum!!!!  VAAAAANNNGUAAAAAAAAAAARD!!!

I guess I should add that H was a tuba major in college, but as a band director, it's his job to know how to play any and everything.  He can teach us all!

My friend played snare in Vanguard, but DH was lead soprano.  Boy can definitely play, and he missed his calling career wise.  I think DH did play in a bass line somewhere but I can't remember where.

I should add that I also sang in our church choir before I got married. Usually 2nd Soprano.

Please excuse my horrible memory.  For some reason I had it in my head that your H was the drummer.  I should have known that he'd have more class than that.  :)

    Either way, it's still awesome.

  • I play a little piano and clarinet, and played mallet percussion (marimba, xylophone, vibes, etc) in high school. I was much more into colorguard and dance, though. I was also in show choir, but I am pretty sure that was more for my dancing abilities rather than my singing abilities.

DH was a trumpet player in high school and now plays guitar and bass for fun.

Also want to add that I am a big SCV fan!!

  • I play piano.  We had to take piano lessons beginning in 1st grade and I took them though 10th grade. I haven't played in a while now that I don't have a piano easily accessible.

I sing 1st & 2nd soprano. I was in a choir for school from 1-12th grade. I competed in show choir a few times also. Now I sing in the choir at our church and for my sorority alum group's caroling around nursing homes for Christmas.

H plays guitar! I love when he plays.
