POLL: Your "red ryder bb gun"

What was your "red ryder bb gun"?  In other words, what was the toy that you desparately wanted for Christmas (or a birthday if you don't celebrate Christmas) as a child?

Was there any toy that you really, really wanted but never received?

Re: POLL: Your "red ryder bb gun"

  • I really wanted the Barbie Malibu Dream House, but never got it.  I got the townhouse with the elevator instead.

Other than that, Cabbage Patch Kids were probably my most coveted toys.  I wish I had kept them.

  • Totally Hair Barbie and her counterpart Ken.

  • Cabbage patch doll, I got one 2 years after the craze and I wasn't that excited anymore. My parents still have it somewhere

    16 read! my read shelf:
Amy's book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • Teddy Ruxpin. I had to share him with my sister but I was still pretty stoked about it.

I always wanted an Easy Bake Oven and never got one of those.

    Happiest place on Earth!

  • I really really wanted the Ken who grew facial hair that you could shave...my uncle got me Kenya barbie instead and told me I should keep her in the box and not open her....I was not impressed.
  • Barbie Dream House. I got it for Christmas, but 6 months later the movers destroyed it in our move overseas. It was never the same after that ( first world problem I know)

I always wanted and never got the gas pump for my Cozy Coupe. I coveted that thing everytime we went to the Toy Store on base. It was up high so I couldn't even play with it while we were in the store.

My mother says I never told them I wanted it. She found one on ebay and offered to buy it for me last year. I have no doubt that our child will own it one day.

  • I can't really remember anything specific that I really wanted and didn't get, but I did HAVE to have a Furby one year during the craze.  My junior high (or whatever grade I was in, 7th, 8th?) boyfriend's mom got one for me and one for his sister in the middle of a crazy herd of people.  It was quite the story!

Puppy Surprise was another big must-have one Christmas.

  • I always wanted one of those trampolines for the backyard, but never got one.

One of my favorite gifts was my barbie car that I could drive around.

  • When I was 5 (1986), I really wanted and got Cricket. If you don't know Cricket, you put cassette tapes in her back, and she read to you. Pulling up a pic brought back sooo many memories.

Oooh, yes! I loved my Teddy Ruxpin. But I didn't have to share with anyone :)

  • Cabbage Patch Kid.
  • An American Girl Doll...but they were too expensive and my parents couldn't afford it. My mom has already talked about buying one for Tessa for Christmas once she gets older now that they can afford it. I can live vicariously through her :-)

I loved mine! Used it till (and after) his bottom jaw fell off. Now that is creapy

  • Cabbage Patch Kid also.  I didn't get it the first Christmas they were the thing to have because I later found out that my Mom and both Grandmas were on the hunt to no avail.  I ended up getting it for my First Communion which was like 6 months later.  That was....Spring 1985?  I think.

The gift I really looked forward to every year was my one Grandma got us girls a new fancy party dress to wear on Christmas.  She had great style and taste and I loved every dress she ever got me.

  • The original Nintendo.... we got it for Hanukkah one year and I remember crying.. yup crying because I was soooo excited!

I loved mine, until my older brother put the Metalica "Kill em All" tape in him when I wasn't around. I started to play what I thought was a story and had Teddy screaming at me about killing things. Yup, pretty much scarred me for life with that one.
