So, Occupy Denver

What does everyone think of their actions the last couple of days?

Re: So, Occupy Denver

  • I think it is time to give it up.

If the goal was to get the word out about the 99%, well, they've done that. There is no new message, that I can see, that they are trying to get out. Time to move on.

    Setting fires, just isn't necessary.

And as to disrupting a vigil for the homeless, there is no excuse. You want to attack the mayor, find another venue.

At this point, all they are doing is causing aggravation to their fellow 99 percenters (the policy, the city workers, the folks attending the vigil) and have gotten lost in defending their right to protest, not moving forward any specific message about improving things.

  • I think they have a right to protest peacefully for as long as they want, and should be allowed to do so. They don't have a right to start fires and such.

  • They've annoyed the heck out of me since the beginning and now it is no exception.  Protest all you want, but you still have to follow the laws and such.  I think they need to give it up.

  • I think the people who show up at the marches and rallies have good heads on their shoulders and understand the message. The ones who are building shacks and staying there really seem to just be lowlife troublemakers... mainly a bunch of young kids with no jobs and no where to go. They are instigators and making a bad name for themselves.

But I don't think they're near ready to give up.

  • I'm not a fan of the "occupy" movements.  Rally, sure, get your message out.

Then, go DO something to help.  Creating tent cities to show how dedicated you are to your message (which I still don't fully understand) does nothing for me.

I see thousands & thousands of man-hours wasted when those people could be out volunteering and helping ANY of the multitude of causes they support.

  • I heard on the news that this movement has cost Denver $1,000,000 so far.  Absolutely unacceptable.  Who pays for that? Us, of course.  Since they clearly aren't contributing to the tax pool.

The Denver Post had a nurse say, "Occupy Denver is safer than going to a homeless shelter where they could get stabbed."  I paraphrased, but that was gist. (source: http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_19580082) Um, really?  Sleeping in a park is safer?!

They're being morons and it grinds my gears.  They should be rallying for support for a different senator/congressman -- someone who aligns with their beliefs and someone who can make a step toward ending the big corporations in Washington's pocket (if that's their message -- I'm still not 100% sure what their message is).  They should taking this effort to speak out on public access instead of defacing parks and city property.

    It's really sad.
