    1. Do you have a favorite Christmas movie? Love Actually

    2. Hobbies? Reading, zumba, yoga

    3. Do you and your H want kids? If so, how many? I'm in my mid-30s and my clock isn't ticking too loudly yet. DH is on the same page, so I'm not sure if we'll ever have any.

    4. Favorite thing about your job? I work with college students and I love seeing them transform from freshmen year - senior year. It's awesome watching them become "grown ups"

    5. How did you and your H meet? We went to high school together but didn't officially meet until college. I had always thought he was cute, but he was a couple of years older than me and our paths didn't cross much. My college roommate and his college roommate were engaged to each other. She and I went over for game night at the boys' apartment right before classes started (I was a freshman and he was a junior). DH and I kept sneaking glances at each other all night and started dating pretty soon after that.

Grew up as an Army brat in Lawton. Majored in journalism at OU and then went to law school. Met DH in college and have been together ever since. After law school, we moved back to Lawton (he's also from here). While waiting for my bar exam results, I decided to take a "temporary" job at our local university. I passed the bar but the position I had became permanent. My plan was to continue to work at the university for another year and then go into private practice with DH. But. . .8 years later, and I am still in higher education administration. I also adjunct criminal law courses and love it. DH and I don't have kids. My life is pretty boring but happy - I love going to the library, watching movies, and being a homebody.

    P.S. - I think you and I share a bday if I remember correctly!

What kind of law do you practice? None. I am licensed but work in higher education. I actually use my degree quite a bit though - I do student judicial affairs, disability services, and adjunct criminal law courses.

Why did you decide to go into law? I was interested in Indian law, mediation, and family law. I had to decide between grad school or law school and thought law would provide more flexibility and options.

Do you have any pets? No, but I love animals!

Any crazy relative or inlaw stories you feel comfortable sharing? My ILs and I have been estranged for a long time and have recently started to work on our relationship. We were fine when I was the "girlfriend" but as soon as DH and I got engaged, things changed big time. Soon after we were married, my MIL asked DH to come over and told him he needed to choose between his wife and his family. That pretty much ruined our relationship between them for many years. My youngest BIL and I also butt heads a lot. He has yelled at me at a funeral, threatened to throw my DH down the stairs, and is such an overall d-bag. I've discovered the secret to being around any of them is xanax and wine.

Favorite thing about Oklahoma? I really think our folks are friendly. I love Sooner football as well. And I think we have an awesome state song!

    Favorite holiday? Halloween

How long have you been married? We celebrated 7 years in October. We dated for 8, so we've been together 15.

Are you originally from Oklahoma? I consider myself an Okie, but I was actually born in Korea (my mom is Korean and met my dad via the Army when he was stationed there). I grew up in Oklahoma for the most part.

What's your go to meal to take to someone post surgery or new baby? Take out Olive Garden

Describe your personal style. Classic at work (lots of blacks, browns, and neutrals) and comfy at home (think sweats). I'm not very fashionable, but Kate Middleton's style is similar to mine when I leave the house. I try to play it safe.

What about decor style? Classic? It's kind of hodge podge. I get inspired by Pottery Barn but probably on a Home Goods budget. =)

  • Now I'm really curious why your in-laws didn't want you to get married / hated you. Like a lawyer isn't good enough for their boy?

I think marriage really struck home that it was permanent and they started to see how different we were. Culturally, politically, and religiously we were different - DH grew up in a long line of Nazarene preachers and I grew up Catholic. DH actually converted to Catholicism (his choice completely) and we got married in a Catholic church, and it was hard for his family to accept. I really think that had a lot to do with it.

Also, the law school thing was probably actually a strike against me in this family. His mom told me she felt sorry for me because I didn't take home economics and that she couldn't believe I didn't know how to use a sewing machine (she even went so far as to hint that it might be a source for marital fights in the future). She works, but I have a suspicion (and some of her comments have verified) that deep down she feels that women need to get married young, pop out kids, and stay home.

They are also uber conservative. The first time I met them, they asked whose car was in their driveway with the crappy Clinton/Gore sticker. LOL!

Lots of factors. I think they realize they are stuck with me and vice versa - we aren't close but are fakey polite.

Umm are you my cousin?  LOL  My aunt is Korean and my uncle met her while he was in the Army, stationed in Korea.  One of my cousins was born in Korea, the other in Germany I believe.  I've never heard a story so close to theirs before :)
