The ball is starting!

Well, I met with a lawyer yesterday and once I get the retainer and filing fee together, I am hiring her and getting this divorce under way! She said that things seem pretty straight forward and the only thing that might get tricky is where DS is concerned.

She answered a lot of my questions and gave me plenty of assurance. STBX kept saying he could file for spousal support since my income is so much higher than his. She said he could... and get denied since 1) we were only married 2 years and 2) he has a recent degree (associates degree in an engineering field) and 3) is under employed by his own choice.

I am selling my stocks and I am going to use that money to pay the lawyer. So come 2012, this ball will be rolling.

  • Best of luck to you!  It feels good to get the wheels in motion, doesn't it?

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

  • Good luck!  I'm glad that you finally heard back from a lawyer and are able to get moving on this!
*The only way to dream is big*
  • Last Friday I found out that STBX was dating the.....person he cheated on me with. I got upset and cried because it hurt that he did not even have the decency to wait until after the divorce. Then I got angry, and I get productive when I get angry. I called this lawyer again and she answered this time. We talked and she had an opening for yesterday.

I am lucky because her retaining fee is only $1500 + filing fee. From the sound of it, that is a really good price.

  • YAY!  Good Luck!

They see us rollin'...they be hatin'.
  • Awesome!  Glad she was able to squeeze you in and in my area, that's a great retainer price!  (mine was $5k)

    Best of luck!
