Fever & DD

This is probably a stupid question, but DD has been really healthy so we've not dealt with much. She had a fever last night of 101.6. Was acting totally fine, not eating quite as much as normal but still eating/drinking. She had a little bit of diarrhea yesterday but I attributed it to the entire can of mandarin oranges she ate the day before. I gave her ibuprofen before bed last night, she went down fine and slept until 12:30, which is 2 hours later then she usually does. I brought her into bed with me, she nursed for a while and went back to sleep.

She woke up a LOT during the night to nurse. We woke up this morning and her fever is at 101.1ish, but the area under her eyes is puffy. It's basically along her cheekbone, on the outside half of her eyes (so not directly under). That's NEVER happened before and it's weirding me out a little. Am I just being paranoid? She's acting fine, still has a bit of diarrhea but the fever seems to be dropping and she's eating/drinking, not lethargic, not complaining about pain or discomfort. Oh, and no new foods in the last few days, and she has no known allergies. Is this worth going to the doc, or should I just wait it out a bit?

Re: Fever & DD

  •  I'd wait it out. If the puffy eyes get worse I'd call. She my have just rubbed it or it may be puffy from being up so much of the night. Also make sure she is drinking plenty of water to keep hydrated.

  • Our pedi would say, at that ge, the fever means little, it is all about how they act. So if she's being generally happy and normal save for extra sleeping and nursing, they'd probably tell you to wait it out until it gets worse.

  • No advice, but kudos to you for still nursing!

:). Ash has no intentions on stopping any time soon. She tried to unzip my shirt in the middle of music class yesterday because she wanted "nummies". I'm shooting for 2 - or whenever she weans herself.

Thanks for the advice, ladies. Fever seems to have broken for the moment, tummy is still upset but the puffiness is going down. Hopefully it's just a little bug and we're moving past it!

  • How is her nose? Is she congested? G used to get puffy if she was really stuffed up and congested. She also used to get like this if she didn't sleep very well. Since you said she was up every 2 hours it's likely she didn't sleep well.

No congestion at all, thankfully. And since we bedshare, she doesn't really wake up all the way, you know? She just wakes up enough to scoot over to me and generally falls back asleep while nursing. The puffiness seems to be going down, so I'm hoping it's just from not sleeping great and from just feeling kinda blah.
