Cricut Craftroom

ok, so there have been several posts lately about what our options are if we have  Cricut.  I went and downloaded CCR yesterday and played around a little.  Unfortunately I have a VERY simple and dumb question that isn't made clear anywhere on their website and I tried googling etc.  Everyone skips over this very basic step: how do I actually link my cartridges to the program?  I was hoping if I registered them on the website that would work, but apparently not.

Do I have to actually have the cartridge and my laptop attached to the Cricut?  Do I just do it once and then never again?  Thanks :)

Re: Cricut Craftroom

  • You don't HAVE to link your cartridges- and personally, I'd recommend you don't (as PC has not given you an option to ever UN-link them, and given that Gypsy users are still waiting on that ability, I wouldn't hold your breath that it will ever become something you'll see with CCr). If anything ever happens to that CCr account, you're likely screwed, too.

So, yes, once you've linked them, it's most likely forever- you can't link them to a Gypsy (or link those that have been linked to a Gypsy, either), and should you ever decide to move on to a better cutter, you're stuck with a bunch of cartridges that are a much more difficult sell.

oh interesting... so wait, how to I use CCr then?

  • Ive just started to use CCr too... from what I have worked out, you just need the cartridge in the cricut when you go to cut. I don't know what happens if you use more than one cartridge though as I haven't got that far yet! But if you are just using one you just hook up the cricut when you are ready to cut press cut and go through the windows until it cuts...

I attempted to link the cartridge that was in there anyway and it didn't work, so I wouldn't worry about linking the cartridges at this point!

  • thanks!  I'll probably just keep it simple and do one at a time for now then :)
  • If you want to use more than one cart, it's easy.

Start with one cartridge in, and then in CCR lick 'Cut'

Select the device, and then 'cut' again.

At this point, it will check to see if you have the carts loaded. If you need a second cart, it will tell you "XYZ Cart not found" (Or something to that effect.) and all you need to do is pull out the first cart and put the second one in.

It will then pop up saying "XYZ  Cart found." And it will give you the option to cut once all the needed carts have been inserted.
