When did you start wearing maternity clothes?

Just curious...

I just had to buy a pair of maternity jeans, and I  bought a pair of slacks a little while ago on sale, and a black long sleeve t shirt. I am 20 weeks tomorrow and the belly band just isn't cutting in with my regular jeans anymore.

Also, where did you go for cheap maternity clothes? I am thinking I should be checking out a consignment shop!

Re: When did you start wearing maternity clothes?

  • I was wearing them at about 15-16 weeks I think. Just for comfort sake. I never used the belly band. Big Wheels on 72nd & 370 has a ton of maternity clothes. I got most of mine from there, JCPenny or GAP's clearance section at the baby Gap at VP.

  • With Audrey probably around 12 weeks.. with this one, closer to 9 weeks.

  • I was in 100% maternity clothes at around 18 weeks. Prior to that, just a few pieces here and there for comfort.

  • Once you make the switch to all maternity clothes (sounds like you are ready), you will feel and look more pregnant. :) And be more comfortable! I decided to start wearing mine once my OB made fun of how I was holding up my pants: with a belly band underneath and a rubber band expanding the space between the button and my button hole on the pants. Hey, I thought it worked okay! You won't have to wear anything with a zipper again for MONTHS!!! :)

No zippers and no belts. It was glorious!

I found my work clothes at gap clearance or kohls.  Also if you go to target customer service and say you registered there, they'll give you samples and a 20% one maternity item. I went to big wheels and got a great deal on jeans and some tops. Not so promising for dress slacks.

  • I got big quick, and I agree that once I stopped wearing too tight pants, I was in heaven. I wore a ton of dresses and skirts. They were the most comfy for me.

  • I started about 25 weeks, but was bigger to begin with and sick every.single.day. Shoot me an email or FB. I might have some dress clothes left that I would be willing to part with cheaper than what I had them marked for consignment.
  • Pants- right around 10 weeks.  I am short waisted with no where but out for the bloat and baby to go.

Shirts- 14-16 weeks or so.  With E I was bigger everywhere, with Ian my belly just grew and grew and grew some more.  I needed new bigger bras sooner with Ian too.

I bought most of mine at garage sales and consignment sales.  A few were from Target, Gap (love their maternity jeans) and Old Navy (love their maternity tanks).

  • Around 13-14 weeks.

Maternity leggings were my best friend.

  • Thanks ladies- Jamie I don't have your email anymore for some reason, can you email me?

  • With Peyton I started wearing maternity shirts around 28 weeks, I never wore maternity pants.  With Berkeley, I wore maternity by 12 weeks...this time, easily by 10 weeks without gaining weight...just for comfort!  Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have stayed in my regular pants with Peyton..maternity = comfort.

  • I loved maternity clothes, so comfy!  I wore them with DD around 16w and with DS around 14w here and there.  Full time by 20w for sure.
