  • Me too. I do have a thought and I shall keep it to myself.

  • Considering I had a c-section I don't know but thanks to birthing classes I have a good clue and all I know is if we have another I am not sure I want to experience this

  • It is basically the way they explain/describe the sensation as the head is coming out. It is a pretty accurate description from my experience - the good thing is that it is over FAST, and once you feel that you know the end is a few pushes away!

Alternately, it is how my hubby describes his b-hole after eating REALLY spicy food and going #2. That might be TMI. hah.

That is a good analogy :-)

Ok, I assumed as much. I really appreciate you explaining it in a way that didn't completely terrify me. Smile

Also, the ring of fire your hubby is describing is awful!

Haha, thanks! Sometimes I think I just don't want to know this stuff until it's too late. Don't want it to change my mind!

For me, based on what I was feeling while pushing, I could feel when it was coming. (Not a bad thing.) In the end it wasn't as bad as I feared - even with mine being a bit prolonged: once his head was out I had to push up until his shoulders were coming through and they made me pause (um yeah a very hard thing to do because you have such an urge to push and you just want that pain to be over); I had to pause so they could get the chord off since it was wrapped around his neck twice and it could have been bad had I kept pushing.

  • gah. I've never heard of this before Claire's birth story. I'm not sure I needed this info Stick out tongue I love the idea of a low intervention birth if we have more kids, but yikes.

Honestly, it's not as bad as it sounds - I read a TON of birth stories in this natural childbirth book so I knew once it happened that I was really almost done. The whole time I was pushing I was kind of waiting for it because like I said I knew it would be the end! It is like taking a massive poop though - you know how you have to push against the pain and it hurts the worst right before it's over.

    haha. I'm terrible.

    hahahahaha

amusingly, this does nothing for the fact i want another baby. i feel greedy, lol.

  • I'm not sure I want to experience all that.  I think I would prefer to be drugged like the last time.

This is how numb I was....

    Dr. "You need to push"

    Me: " I am pushing"

    Dr. "No you're not"

Apparently my mind telling my numb body to push wasn't working.

Same goes for me.  Once I finally got the epi, I went to 10 within an hour.  My midwife told me to push on the next contraction, but I couldn't feel anything...so I just beared down like I was pushing out a poop, and with about 3 or 4 pushes he was out.  Felt nothing, just the wiggling to get his shoulders through.  Didn't even feel the stitching of my tear.

I had an epi for a very short while in the middle of labor: pain med free from 8pm - 2:30pm the next day (18.5 hours), epi from about 2:30pm - 5pm (2.5 hours), pain med free from 5pm-10pm (5 hours).

The epi was only enough to take the edge off the contractions.  It made me throw up the entire time I had it and to still feel the contractions and then to be throwing up at the same time was way worse so I let the epi wear off and continued to labor and deliver pain med free.

Next time, I won't even bother with the epi.

Ugh. No kidding. That's awful! My friend's epi numbed her opposite of what it was supposed to. She felt all the contractions, but couldn't tell if she was pushing.
