So my dad met the US Marshall yesterday...

Keep in mind that I get told this story as I'm coming into work today (half day teacher work day), and laughing my head off.

Backstory: I moved to Louisiana this summer after leaving my XH in early February.  We co-own a home in Texas.  XH was an abusive arsenugget, and one night in a fit of rage left a hole in the wall about an inch from where my head had been (three years ago) and another hole in a door after I said something to piss him off (two years ago).  In the divorce, I took over prepping the house for sale because I wanted it done right, and XH's track record isn't exactly stellar with accomplishing things.  My dad, bless him, has offered to fix the door and the wall, and was in the process of doing this yesterday when the Marshall walked in the door (Dad had left it unlocked).

It turns out that a team of them were in the immediate area waiting to arrest someone two doors down from my home (I lived in Waco, which is an odd, strange little screwed up city). We're not sure what for, all we know is that it wasn't murder.  He had been watching Dad go in and out of the house all day with various items, repair materials, etc, and decided to check things out as well as get the layout of the house before dude they were waiting for got home (it's a condo, so layouts are identical).  Dad proceeded to make friends with the Marshall, and then shows him some of the repairs he's been making, including the hole in the upstairs bedroom we used as an office.

The Marshall asked if XH had been arrested.  When Dad said that he hadn't (because I never told anyone until after I left him), the Marshall indicated that he probably should have been arrested, and offered to do so if he pulled anything else.

I couldn't help but laugh my head off at the entire situation. It's relieving that I'm out, absolutely joyous that I'm not only over it but happier than I have been before, but scary that the U.S.-freaking-Marshall offered to arrest my XH.  I also find it highly amusing that my father managed to make friends with the Marshall.

  • When people say stuff like that to me it kinda creeps me out, like how did I not realize that situation was so terrible? My shrink told me I should have got a restraining order against my ex. I didn't think it was too bad at the time.

Same here.  I didn't really think XH throwing things like garbage cans and metal objects at me while drunk was out of the ordinary until I was removed from the situation.  I now ask myself how I could have been so blind.

  • Yeah there's definitely a fog that people live in when they're in an abusive relationship (drugs, alcohol, emotional or physical abuse).  Hell, I though happy ending massages wasn't cheating after he gave me such crap about it and made me feel like I was the crazy one!
