Last minute info/advice for Cancun?
We're headed there next week. I haven't really done much planning as we're just going for the relaxation, plus eating and drinking. We do plan to go zip lining one day. We're staying at the CasaMagna Marriott. I'm hoping the weather will cooperate as it looks like there has been rain on and off.
Any specific recommendations? We're pretty open to just about anything. Thanks!
Re: Last minute info/advice for Cancun?
i got home saturday after 2 weeks. we had 2 days where it rained for about anhour and that was it. the rest of the tiem it was the windiest i've ever seen it-we go every december.
this year we ate at sasi-the thai place in front of your hotel. it was excellent. also you can walk through to the JW and see the huge real ginger bread house in the lobby. they have a nice piano bar there too-nice for a drink in the evening.
any questions about anything specific? a few of my fave restaurants are puerto madero and cenacolo as well as the distillery.
xplor has a great zipline course.
Food recommendations would be great.
We also plan to go out 1 or 2 nights as we like to dance, drink and have fun. So any recommendations for that?
We'll definitely check out the JW.
Do you have to pay a tax when leaving the airport?
Thanks!
for the dancing and drinking part-not really. i haven't been to a club there in years. i really wasnt impressed with them after going out in manhattan my whole life. honestly i go to relax LOL out for dinner and then ususally we're back at our hotel (we have a timeshare and 3 other couples do a well at the same time) so we're usually back after dinner for drinks and games or whatever. not very exciting-but extremely relaxing
there is a tax when you leave but we fly jetblue and it's always included in our fare as i've never had to pay at the airport. now that i think of it i never paid when we took american (before jetblue started flying there about 5 years ago) either. you can contact your airline and find out if it's included. i think it's $21 usd so if you want to be on the safe side set some $ aside for the airport when you leave.

If you have any interest in seeing Mayan ruins, I LOVED taking a day trip to Tulum when I stayed in Cancun. The ruins are right on the water, and the view is amazing.

There are a ton of bus tours that go there, and sometimes you can combine it with another excursion (like ziplining, etc).
The CasaMagna is beautiful! I recommend their mango daquiris for breakfast.
Though it is a bit far from the action, you can catch the bus to town, right in front of the hotel.
If you want a really great zipline experience, I highly recommend Selvatica. It is the largest and fastest zipline in/around Cancun (about halfway between Cancun and Playa). After the canopy tour, they take you to a hidden cenote where you can ride the zipline into the water!
Our favorite Cancun restaurant is Lorenzillo's (seafood specialties).
I've never paid a tax at the airport.
