Foodie GTG for January Idea

Valentines for Soldiers

There is a $10 donation at the door.  You can bring crafting supplies, baked goods to mail or anything else on the list on the website that will go into care packages for servicemen.  The event is at the St. Arnolds Brewery, so adults only.

Monday, January 16th from 6 pm to 9 pm

St Arnold's 2000 Lyons Avenue

I think it would be a fun GTG for January, even though most of us just baked a whole lot of cookies this month, I am happy to bake some more for a good cause.  And there are other ways to participate if you are sick of you oven!  Is anyone interested?

  • Love it. Count me in!

  • Awesome idea!  I'm good with baking more cookies, especially since I didn't get to bake much this year.

PAGAS - you participated in a cookie exchange earlier this month.  Do you have a list of tips for what should/not be baked?  What holds up or what won't ship well?

That is a listing of what you can bring, there don't seem to be any restrictions on baked goods.  The cookie exchange I participated in was at bpaullo's house, so nothing was shipped super far =)  Just the looong drive down I-10.

HA!  As soon as I posted I figured it was in the link.  I thought you did the mailed one that some of the WC girls did.

I did have to giggle at the bolded....I had a college alumni event at St. Arnold's on a Saturday a few weeks ago (during the regular Saturday open tasting) and there were a TON of kids.  Tons.  I was suprised by that (I had only been there one other time and it was for a private event).

I'll answer this a bit since I've sent many care packages over there.  Their link has a warning about things melting.  You don't have to worry about that during this time of year though, it may be the desert, but it gets cold.  I'd avoid any iced/frosted cookies though, those can get really messy.  Other cookies may get broken & crushed, but they will still be eaten happily.

  • This sounds awesome - I really hope I can do it, since we'll be moving into our house the weekend beforehand!

  • Sounds like fun, and a great cause!

  • I can't imagine this would be the case because of the perishable nature, but wanted to share just in case - I believe you are not supposed to send pork products to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.  So if you wanted to make the bacon cookies I've seen on pinterest, that might not be a good idea. :-)

    PAGAS - GREAT idea!

Here is a link for suggestions/restrictions in soldier care packages.
