Stupid Question: I should know how to do this

I was just wondering if anyone had advice on how to get a smooth ponytail with my hair. Everytime I make a ponytail its never smooth like every other person's hair I see. I always have the lines where the brush brissels went through to pull my hair back. Also, I always have weird things going on the sides going on.

Is there a special brush people use? Just use your hands and avoid brushes for the line issue? Any advice? I would love a smooth pony tail with now lines and bumps showing..

I know I am 30 years old and should know how to put my hair in a pony tail by now.. Embarrassed

No advice from me, but I'm in the same boat. I can't get a smooth ponytail either. I very rarely put my hair in a ponytail, but if I do I just let it be messy and hope that people understand I am going for the messy look.

you want the actual pony smooth and straight or the hair on your head? If the pony, the only real way (for me) is to blow-dry. Otherwise my pony is always a little curly.

If you're talking hair on your head - blow drying is an option. In the summers when I want it slick and not to come out I actually use product and a very very fine tooth comb and do it that way. Then spray it.

In the winter I just use a brush. To make it the best looking I usually part my hair instead of just going it straight back.

I don't really have any advice either. I have curly hair, so my ponytails are never very smooth. The only time that happens is if I straighten my hair first or put my hair up while it's still wet from the shower.

I am sorry I wasnt clear.. I am referring to the hair on my head and not the hair in the actual ponytail.

I use a brush first to put it up and then I smooth it out with a fine tooth come before I put it in the ponytail holder. Sometimes I use a little product in my hair too.

I think my hair is sort of trainable... you know, like when you first change your part to a new spot it wants to go back there until you train it to lay the new way?

If I don't wear pony tails for a few days my hair is bumpy. But once I wear them my hair lays smoother.

Also, if I don't wash my hair in the morning they are always bumpy. If I wash my hair, it lays smoother. My hair is naturally curly. Doesn't matter if I dry it or not, it will still lay smooth if I wash it then pull it up with no product in it.

Normally, because I'm short on time to get ready with Landon around now, I just blow dry the roots, let it air dry until I walk out the door, then pull it up and it's smooth.

Go get the teaze brush - I got my elf Mrs.B one. Your hair is probably fine and/or thin and that's why it's doing that. Tease it a little at your scalp on the top of your head (all around) and then use this brush to smooth the tease, giving you a little more volume for your hair to stand on.

I'll brush or comb it back to get all of the pieces back there & smoothed out with no major bumps, but then will loosen my grip on the hair and smooth it back with my hands before putting the elastic in.... seems to take care of the comb/brush lines. Its easier for me to do dry rather than wet also.
