Happy Thursday!

Umm, it's Dec 22nd.  Christmas is in 3 days.  WTF?!?!?!?!??!  Also, where's my snow?  This 6 degrees above freezing thing is utter BS.

My night was totally made when I got home to an awesome SS package.  I'll AW that in a separate thread, but let me just say that I love Mandee!!

I got the baking done last night that I wanted too.  Another 3.5 dozen ginger snaps.  Derek was in ginger snap heaven.  I also finished wrapping everything that we have in the house and started packaging baked goods.  I need to come up with a way to wrap the cranberry shortbread and ginger snaps.  I'm thinking a MIchael's run for more cellophane bags is in order.

I'm leaving work at lunch today to get the rest of my running around and baking done, and then tomorrow is a short day!  Bring on the holidays!

How is everyone today?

Re: Happy Thursday!

  • It is 44 degrees here...like spring.  I really want to go for a run, but given the spotting I am waiting to hear from my doctor first.  I really hope she calls me this morning because I am starting to get anxious that she hasn't called.  The only saving grace is that I figure that if there was a problem she would have called me immediately, right?

Meanwhile, I think it is supposed to snow tomorrow (fingers crossed),  My BIL will be here late morning, so we are hanging out until Ed gets home tonight, which should be mildly awkward, but fine.  Then we are going out tonight.  I also need to wrap presents today and get laundry done.

  • Our high today is 61. The other D.C. ladies might boo me, but I'd love to have some close-to-freezing temps! :) We'll get cooler weather in MI, but still not very wintry.

Wednesday night was good--nothing too exciting, though I did drag myself to the gym and got a few miles in. I'm taking my running gear to MI so I can do a few runs on the dirt road that my parents live on (and start my New Year's resolution to run more a few days early).

Today at work might be quiet. I have a bit to do, but I'm going to leave a bit early b/c I'm beat.

    Have a great one, all.

  • I'm a little homesick today to be honest.  I know that we made the choice to stay here for the holidays, and I'm looking forward to our quiet time together this weekend.  But it was hard to call home last night, which was our annual tree-trimming party, and to hear my parents talk about everybody coming over and all the Christmas baking they've done, etc.

Anyways, I also got all my wrapping done and DH's stocking done last night, so I'm good to go!  Just a few more hours at work today, and then tomorrow is family day in the office (lots and lots of kids ... fun), so should be an easy day.

  • Last night my sister and I took the boys to see the christmas lights. I was really dreading it but it was alot of fun and Preston was amazed.

This afternoon I am going to finish up my baking taking the boys to see santa and deliver some of the stuff I have been baking! I plan to leave work at 3 so I can get home a little early to get busy. I need to run to walmart as bad as I hate to. I have been trying to avoid that place, but I am afraid I am going to have to break down and go before christmas. I am going to the dollar store today and I desperatly hope they have everything I need.

  • Yay, Thursday!  I have tomorrow off so today is my fake Friday.  I work 10-6 and I've already been to the gym.  I'm on call tonight and I'm hoping it's uneventful.

I have my OB appointment today at 1pm so I'll have to take an extra long lunch.  I am STARVING today.  Must be a growth spurt going on because i'm insatiable.  This cannot be a good thing since we had out potlock at work yesterday and there are lots of sweets left.

    Have a great day!

I will not boo you! I want colder weather too - it totally does not feel like Christmas at ALL.

yesterday was Sean's birthday, so we celebrated with an always popular taco night. nom. I made some homemade gifts (peppermint sugar scrub & candy cane vodka) while he watched TV, and then I wrapped some of the store bought gifts.

today I'm working normal hours and then we're having dinner with friends for Sean's birthday. I also have to run to Kmart and pick up a few last minute things (why are there ALWAYS last minute errands?). also waiting on AF to show so I can schedule blood work. I'm hoping it holds out until Saturday so that I don't have to go to a lab to get it done on CD3 as opposed to my doctor's office.

  • We're slightly below freezing right now but it's supposed to warm up to the 40s today. We still haven't had a snow yet. As much as I don't enjoy snow, I do kind of wish that we would get some for Christmas. It's not fun to drive in if we get a lot but a dusting would be nice.

I'm getting my hair cut later this morning. It is long overdue so I'm pretty excited. Tonight I have to decide between going out with Kyle to watch a basketball game or staying home and watching it on TV while I wrap Christmas gifts. Currently I'm leaning toward watching it at home. If I didn't have so much to do I'd love to go out but these gifts won't wrap themselves and tomorrow I'll be busy cooking.

  • I wish it was colder here too.

Last night was a late night. Eric and I went out to work for my work party. We went to a new fancy steak place. It was great, the bad part was I got home at 11:30 and got up at 5 am. I am sleepy. I also had to take my car into the shop. I got a loaner car which is turbo charged. Let's just say that Mini likes to go fast. :)

Tonight I'm finishing wrapping a last minute gift and baking some Bourbon Pecan pies to take to our family.

Last not today is my Friday. Yippee!

  • Good morning, ladies.

I've got your Christmas right here.  6" and continuing to snow all day.  Currently 21* F; low tonight will be 2* F.  Cheddar and Muenster are not amused - they lasted about one minute outside.

Today I'm making butter toffee, tiger butter, butternut squash bread, and pumpkin snickerdoodles,  That's a lot of butter - I might be channeling Paula Deen.

  • @ raynes - good luck with Michael's.  I was in one Saturday and it looked like it had been hit by a plague of locusts.  Also, keep your snow to yourself until I'm done flying places.

There are two work days left this week and I think my boss had made it his mission to make me BSC before they are over.  All the junior staffers have left for the holiday because they had leave they needed to use or lose.  The only other female senior staffer and my work BFF has left for vacation.  That leave me, our policy director (a nice guy), our development director (commonly referred to as twat-waffle) and the boss.  I have a list of crap the length of my arm to do for year end and I wasn't here for 90 seconds before he was asking me to do some stupid giant calendar thing.

Also, I gave up and went to the doctor last night and am now the proud owner of a z-pac for my sinus infection and bronchitis.  Yay, me!  On the plus side, and it's probably a placebo effect, one does later and I feel a little better this morning.

ETA:  @ susi @mandee I'm going to boo just a little.  I don't mind it getting a bit colder, but I don't want to see any snow until I'm done traveling, kthnxbai

Someone else said the exact same thing!  They had a big 20% off everything sale on Saturday, so maybe that's why?  I should be able to find something to fit me needs.

Re: butter, I currently have 6 lbs of butter in my fridge that is not earmarked for any specific baking projects.  They keep putting butter on sale at the grocery store, and I know I'll use it eventually, so I buy lots.  It's sort of funny.

I buy it at the warehouse store, so I usually have four pounds in the freezer.

Do you split it up into "stick" amounts before you freeze it?  Or just put the whole thing in there?  Do you wrap them up extra?  I feel like freezing might be a good option.

  • I haven't been around for a wee bit. It has been rather busy around here. I didn't get the job at the preschool that we were really hoping for so now it is back to square one once we get back from holidays. Job hunts are no fun.

I am really loving my term position and wish it was going to last past Christmas, sadly no dice. On the upside of things just days left till we fly off to have Christmas with my family, we haven't had Christmas with them since the year DH proposed. We fly out early Christmas morning and are there by 11 am. Ben and I are both really excited. I am still in the process of getting DH's gift made but, I am sure I will get some time to do that tonight.

Just a few days till Christmas.

It's already in sticks, in four one pound boxes, and I just throw the whole thing in there.  The four boxes together are wrapped in plastic, but I don't think it makes a difference, since they sit in there un-plasticed once I've cracked into the package.

  • Working today and then hopefully headed home to relax a little. I have to re-wrap a few presents that my big dog decided to unwrap for me, jerk! She has no idea what a pain it is to get those kinds of things done while I feel like an over inflated balloon! Other than that I have to make a cheese ball for Christmas eve so I'll be braving the grocery store at some point.. YUCK!

    Have a good day ladies!

P.S. No snow here either, it just feels wrong with out it. Yes, I am pouting about it a little! Crying

  • We're still in sleeping hell with this cold that is refusing to leave. Jackson coughs about every 2 minutes, which either keeps him awake or wakes him up from the little sleep he is getting. I feel sorta bad, but I've been putting him in day care while I'm home on vacation. I need some sleep and he seems to sleep much better there. The sleep is the only thing that seems to make him feel better. Anyone know of some remedies for a 5 month old with a cough? It was phlegm, but now it seems to be just a cough. I'm screwed if this doesn't go away soon. I need to sleep!

Currently, I'm all curled up with one of my furbabies on the couch, my brother is still passed out, and it's a beautiful 50 degrees outside. All of you wishing for snow and cold can suck it. I'll take this weather all winter if it wants to stay that way. Then bring me right into summer. Absofreakinlutely! I should get outside and do some spray painting of some end tables we got off the side of the road since it's actually warm enough, but I'm pretty comfy.

I still have to take my brother to pick up something he had shipped to store and then a swap gift hunt at Job Lot. Not too eventful, but still fighting traffic all the same.

  • Well last night was a fail. First, I forgot that I lent my mom my cupcake pans so I couldn't make the cupcakes and I'll be making them tonight. Then, O was up a few times last night, I lost track of how many times, and then was up for a solid hour at 4:30. I ended up sleeping in a bit and got to work late. The kicker is I'm pretty sure she's coming down with a cold and I may be getting it too. I feel awful because this isn't how I wanted her first Christmas to be.

Tonight, I will make the cupcakes and probably brave the mall to pick up a few stray gifts. I'm not sure how that's going to work since both the baby and I feel crummy and it's cold out so I may just send DH.

    Have a good day ladies.

  • Hi ladies

Ive been on the go since 7:30 this mmorning. I got home about an hour ago and need to find the motivation to unload the van, but at least my shopping is finally done. I'm off tomorrow too, so I'll either wrap then or tonight. I'm currently enjoying a little quiet time while the boys are at dc.
