President's Day weekend getaway
DH and I always do a trip the weekend of President's Day in place of getting each other Valentine's Day presents. We always know where we want to go, but this year we are at a loss. We would leave sometime Friday evening and want to be home sometime Monday evening. We live in Central PA and would like to go somewhere within 4 hours (by car or plane) and we'd like to keep it under $1000 for the trip. We are looking for something relaxing and romantic, but also with some fun things to do. Any suggestions? (Also if I am being too vague let me know, but we are pretty open minded for anything)

Maui, November 2011
i am from Pittsburgh and I love Cleveland (blasphemy, I know). Not sure I would want to drive 4+ hours there in the potential snow though. I agree with the pp, if you go, check out Michael Symon's Lola - it is seriously one of the bet meals I've ever had. The R&R HoF is kinda meh. If you like beer, check out Great Lakes Brewery (one of my faves). There is also great shopping in CLE (honestly, better than Pittsburgh). If you like Arhaus furniture there is an actual outlet store (swoon).
Enough with my CLE love fest... With $1000, I would personally fly to Miami or FLL to get out of the cold in Feb. But that's just me
If you don't mind mid-Atlantic weather, I suggest either DC or the Charlottesville, VA area. DC is great if you like museums and galleries, because there is plenty to do indoors if it's cold. Charlottesville has wineries (I'm sure with indoor wine tastings) and historical attractions (Monticello, historic homes) and it's really beautiful, even in winter. We've been out there in all seasons, but we went once in January and still had plenty to do...you can rent a cabin or stay at a romantic b&b with fireplaces in the rooms. I was happy with the Inn at Sugar Hollow Farm - the Wildflower suite has a real fireplace and a nice bay window looking out into the mountains. $1000 would easily cover a nice room, upscale meals, gas, etc.
If you want warm weather, I'd look for package deals for either Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, or maybe Clearwater.
