S/O Interro's name problem

Sooo you know how Interro had that guy calling and calling her and always calling her the masculine version of her name?

well I have people who email me using my last name as if it's my first name. There's one person in particular who does it every single time she emails me - most people figure it out quickly. I was thinking I'd let it slide. Then I replied to the email: "Thanks, AMY" in all caps. Passive aggressive, maybe. But this is like ten emails in now and she's still writing "Hey LastName," and asking me to do favors for her.

I just sent her this IM:

"hi Person, I wanted to let you know, my first name is Amy, my last name is LastName...just in case you ever have to look me up on IM or something else."

Is that totally weird?

Re: S/O Interro's name problem

  • I don't think so, how annoying that she keeps doing that.
  • For some reason, this reminds me of that Friends episode where Chandler's co-worker is always calling him Toby.

  • No, not weird at all.  Her fault for not reading.  I mean, at least at my company our email addresses are firstname.lastname@company.com... so why does she think you're the only one in the world who they screwed up on?  The name before the period is the first name.  Always.

Except I'm not going to play along with it forever! That's a great episode though!!!

She replied: "sorry, I know that, just on information overload"... for three weeks, really?

  • Is your last name a name that could be a first name?

My one thought- I have a friend who calls everyone by their last name.  For her, it's a sports thing.  She played soccer growing up and that's how everyone called one another.

In a professional setting (how I met her), she actually doesn't do that. She knows better.   But once we became friends, she now calls me by my last name.

I just wonder if doing that is this woman's "thing" and she doesn't realize that not everyone likes it, "gets" it,  or that its really simply not appropriate in a work setting.

    lol

"I know that"? Uh, then quit calling me the wrong name!

    That's really weird.

Disregard my previous response.  She had no clue and now she's trying to cover.

    I know, right?

But in answer to your question, yes, my last name is a girl's first name spelled differently.

  • I think what you did is fine (shocker!!).
  • One of my college professors used to say you may either call me "first name" or "Your Royal Highness".  It worked for him.

  • I have a co-worker who does that all.the.time. Except he calls me my maiden name, which is nothing resembling person's first name. Unless you're a full-blooded Native American from pre-revolutionary war times... you know, when they still went by tribal names.

I've worked with this guy for over 10 years, and he's been doing it for the whole time. I've been married for almost 4 and a half years but he never changed it to my married name. I'm still maidenname. It's weird.

I just call him his proper first name (he goes by a shortened version). He hates his proper name but knows why I do it. We seem to have come to an understanding between us.

  • Did she spell it like Lastname or like Femalefirstname?

I can never understand how people get names wrong when replying to emails. I mean, I signed the thing the way I spell my name and how I want to be called, you hit reply, my text is still included, and you still don't get it right. This is just not that hard, people.

I agree with everything that muddled said. You should listen to her. -ESDReturns

Exactly! And she spelled it like Lastname, which as you know, is never the spelling of the female first name, lol.

  • My sister has this problem too. Except her last name isn't actually a first name, they misread it and change it to a first name (its one letter off). It bugs the crap of out her, but I'm not sure if she has corrected it or not.
