Need last minute holiday help? SantaJoaquin is here.

Anything from gift ideas to menus, until she wakes up from her nap.

First 10, and ho ho ho go!

Re: Need last minute holiday help? SantaJoaquin is here.

  • SantaJoaquin, my step-sister just mailed me a gift, but I didn't get her anything! I did send a gift basket of chocolate treats to her house for the family to share. Am I off the hook, or should I get her something else? (ftr, we aren't close and when I have bought presents for my step-sisters it's usually something $10 each.)
  • Smock, get her a magazine subscription from Amazon.  There are decent ones for under $5, but they usually go for like $50 everywhere else, so it'll look like you were super lavish with your spending.  Also, magazines come once a month for a year, so she'll be forced to think of your generosity all year long.

  • Dear SantaJoaquin,

My housemate mentioned something she wanted the other day so I bought it for her for Christmas. Last night I found out she bought a better version of it for herself. 4 days before Christmas! WHO DOES THAT!?!  So what should I do? Unwrap and return my gift for something else 3 days before Christmas? She is impossible to shop for because she has EVERYTHING already.

    Balls.

  • Oooh, good idea. But follow-up question: do I have to get something for my other two step-sisters? Also, what if I don't know any of their addresses? (did I mention we aren't close?)
  • SCC, SantaJoaquin thinks your roommate is a weirdo.  Give her the gift but include the gift receipt, and if you feel weird about it get her a supplement gift of peppermint bark or some sh*t.

If you really feel like you need to make the exchange yourself, do it and get her a gift card to either amazon or a big box store like Target.

  • Smock, if you & your stepsisters aren't close, they're not going to call each other to gossip about how you got one of them something and not the others.  SantaJoaquin says, f*ck the rest of them, and if they want gifts they'll at least be proactive in giving you their address.

  • You are the best Santa ever.

I have another question: H and I will be alone for Christmas. What should we eat on Christmas morning for breakfast? We are not big bakers, and I don't like chocolate chips.

  • Smock, can't you just call your parent and get all their addresses?

I'd send them all magazine subs tailored to their interests.

Excuse me, is your name SantaJoaquin? I didn't think so.

Anyway, that's a good idea, but I'd rather just say they can eat the chocolate basket (they'll all be at my dad's house xmas morning) and not get them anything else, and not feel guilty about it.

  • Smock, SantaJoaquin is tempted to not answer because not liking chocolate chips is crazy talk.

However, she suggests a make-ahead frittata with red & green peppers (festive!), with some cheddar cheese and english muffins, and mimosas, or martinis with a green olive stuffed with pimento if you want to keep up the red & green theme.  She'd also suggest you add green onions to the frittata, because those are her favorite food, but that's up to you.

  • Oh, I also don't like onions.

But we do have some prosecco so I will add orange juice to the shopping list! Thanks, SantaJoaquin!

P.S. I think this thread is turning into another "smock being difficult" threads. Sorry. :P

  • If you buy a mag now the sub won't come until January so it won't be a topic for discussion on Christmas.

  • SantaJoaquin,

I got my father and brother/sis-in-law two gifts each, but only got my mom one.  Does this mean I love her less?  Will she start to breathe fire and put a cap in my azz?  If so, how to remedy the situation?

  • She's so cute!
  • Gaultry, as long as it ends up being roughly similar cost-wise they're adults and should recognize that.  If they were little kids it would be a different story.  If you feel like they should have a similar number of presents, amazon-based magazine subscriptions are SantaJoaquin's go-to last minute present.

  • Doglove, it is fortunate that SantaJoaquin is cute, because otherwise her elf would've sold her to the circus ages ago.  It's probably some kind of evolutionary mechanism.  So, she thanks you, because it keeps her alive.
