Imaginary Friends Poll

Do your kids have imaginary friends? My son has 5 dinosaurs as his imaginary friends. They mostly do what he does, and it's really cute. He says things like he needs to update his dinosaurs' Facebook page. They don't have names, they are collectively "my dinosaurs" when he talks about them. They apparently aren't afraid of monsters, and they hatched from eggs, and they want various things for Christmas (not necessarily the same things DS wants).

How about your kid(s)?

  • I don't think I had any imaginary friends. DS has one though. Her name is baby. She likes trucks. She loooooooves SOs car. She likes to play outside and she doesn't care if it's cold. She only talks to him. It's cute! They read books together. lol.
  • DD has a trio of imaginary bears. Sometimes they eat dinner with us, and they love to go camping and eat marshmallows.

She has loveys (as in stuffed animals) that have an entire elaborate and lovey world all their own. Currently, as I type, they are out on the lovey luge as Charlotte told me.

  • My son has Wolverine as his imaginary friend.  Wolverine is often a boy, but sometimes he's a superhero (like the Wolverine X-man) and sometimes he's an actual wolverine animal.  When he's a boy, Wolverine is a little older than DS#1, but he can do things like fly airplanes, snowboard (and my son skis), drive, buys expensive toys that he keeps at his house for DS#1 to play with, has houses in CA, CO, and MT that they visit "after [us parents] go to bed at night."  Wolverine always one-ups everyone - like "our Christmas tree is good, but Wolverine's is magnificent."  Wolverine also reads things to DS#1 so he doesn't have to read.

It's been fun and honestly, I get a little sad when I don't hear about him for a few days b/c Wolverine has been part of our family and stories for about 2 years now, but I think DS#1 is slowly growing out of that.

  • No, but she talks to her dolls and toys like people, though.  Half the time I can't figure out if she's talking to me or them

DD does this too.  And she makes them talk back to her and her other toys.  It's funny.

  • She doesn't have any imaginary friends, however she does include all of her school friends in her play conversation. They're real friends, just not with her at the time.
