I'm headed to the Oldsmar fire station for a car seat check today. Do most people wait until they are 9+ months pregnant and ready to pop before they do this? We are pretty sure we followed the manual exactly but it still seems a tiny bit wobbly in the XTerra. Just wanted to keep y'all up to date on my life
Re: Car seat check today
my read shelf:
We waited until the last few weeks to install. It felt weird riding around with it without a baby in it. lol
If you think its wobbly, get in the car and kneel down on the base to tighten (I suggest having your H do it, lol). We were having problems with ours until we did that.

That's awesome! I can't imagine doing it till last minute so I don't think you're behind, lol.
I don't know how/if we will do this at all...no car, and we're planning to take a cab home from the hospital. Maybe there's someone at the hospital who can help make sure we're not strapping our kid into a yellow death trap. Yikes.

MrsMew, that's interesting, I never thought about taking a cab with a baby. You obviously aren't going to buy a car seat if you don't have a car, so how do you strap your baby in to get her home? Do you know any other baby mama's in the city who have been there? I'm guessing the hospital will have advice for you because it's probably pretty common. I'm curious to see how that works.
Chelsea, that's exactly what the fire fighter did, he got in and put his knee on it and tightened the latch. And hubby passed his installation test
We are ready to go! The inspector 86ed our Snuzzler though which I had a feeling he would do because it didn't come with the car seat. It should still come in handy with her stroller though.
I'm sure it's not necessary with all the mommies you know and by just reading your manual, it was just something on my checklist that I wanted to do. It's a free service, they just ask that you bring in a donation item for the food pantry, so I even felt warm and fuzzy
Actually, we were told by the hospitals we looked at that within New York City proper you don't have to have a carseat in a cab at all. They'll let you just stroll out of the hospital, hail a cab and be on your merry way. But, we're actually going to use a hospital in NJ so I assume the rules are different. We're going to buy a carseat anyway because I figure we'll need it when we travel with the baby, but I just won't really be able to practice getting it strapped into a car ahead of time! That's something I hadn't even really considered. Hmmm.
