The MM trainwreck post

Has everyone been over to see it? Between poor kids not being worthy of dreaming of nice Christmas gifts and a teacher who hates kids and thinks that 15/16 year olds are adults, it's quite the read if you've got about an hour. I think it's up to 9 pages now. My favorite was one of the posters who thinks that kids who are on those angel-type lists should only be putting things like socks or other necessities on there, because beggars can't be choosers.
Oh, FFS.

Re: The MM trainwreck post

  • I got up to page 7. Some people are so damn Scroogey. its unbelievable. 10:1 those are the people who have never gone without. Entitled assholez.

    This.

I'm all about pulling yourself up by your bootstraps... but to begrudge a child a Christmas because his/her PARENTS aren't making enough money?!  These are people who have no perspective on what life is really like for a good number of people every day.

  • That sounds exhausting.

My angel tree kid is getting a bike but I got to ride it around the basement before I dropped it off, so it was totally a win-win.

  • That whole post made me so mad.  I went in with a few other people to get some kids stuff from work, we're supposed to get them like 6 presents each.  Our kids asked for Polo boots (they were 7 and 14 years old) and at first we were kind of going, "Uh... Polo boots you'll grow out of in like a month?" not to mention we didn't know Polo makes boots until these kids asked for them.

But you know what we did?  We bargain shopped and we got them their boots.  Plus some Polo shirts, nerf guns and sports stuff.

Because it's not their fault their life isn't better than it is.  And I hope some day they tell their kids about the Christmas when some strangers got them exactly what they wanted.

  • Blame the high end item requests on TV, radio, magazines and the media --- they're asking for status symbols.
  • imoan, I bought a sh*tload of kinda cheap toys for toys for tots, because there's a hardcore shortage in our area.  The whole time I was like, but imoan would tell me to get the Lisa Frank folders! *sob*

I seriously bought Target out of 24 packs of crayolas and $2 coloring books though, and they still only have like 500K toys for 700K requests. :

  • That ochemjenn person is fvcked in the head.

Kirkette wins the internet for asking if the kids should have asked for Target brand shoes and some bootstraps.

  • I am nauseated now.  Post summary:  Poor kids should have nothing fun and only have needs on wishlists.
  • See, my angel tree kids asked for both toys and clothes, though I suspect it was the parents that made the list.

But, honestly, can't a kid - any kid - dream of opening up something other than socks and underwear Christmas morning?

  • The original poster, did actually, claim to change her mind at around page 6.  When someone pointed out that sometimes, the gaming systems are the better choice.  Honestly she bothered me a lot less than some of the posters.

  • I'm of two minds on the whole thing. I think some of the posters are ridiculous, obviously. I have no problem buying a kid a video game or whatever fun toys they ask for. But I draw the line at designer clothes. I've never owned a pair of designer jeans and don't see the point in buying them for someone else. Call me a scrooge, but I think designer clothes are a rip off.

You bought Crayola... you're good in my book.  Don't buy the poor kids pieces of shyt RoseArt while you buy your kids the 100 pack of Crayola.

Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
  • Dude, I can't read all that. Seriously, were some people never children? When you are 5 you NEEEEED that Transformer toy (or whatever), so of course it goes on your list.

I don't see how my objecting to one type of gift makes me a bad person. Would you buy a super violent age inappropriate video game if that's what they asked for? If buying something goes against what you believe in, you shouldn't have to do it. I would just pick a kid who wasn't asking for that kind of stuff and would go for the one who wants the video games and digital cameras. Still buying what they asked for...

I don't even know why I bother to post on these boards. Have an opinion that slightly differs from someone and they jump down your throat. Way to be open minded.

Charity isn't about what YOU deem someone should or shouldn't have.

I get that. I really do. But I also can't turn my back on who I am. I've never had problem with this kind of charity, but I usually pick the little ones.
