Re: Anyone belong to a credit union?

  • We belong to Affinity Plus. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. We switched from wells fargo and usbank.

There are almost zero fees. Each month that we use our debit card we get an itunes card. And we can pay for checks etc with the points that you earn for banking with them.

Everyone there knows me by first name when I go in there...LOOOOVE it.

Same here.  I love the participation rewards, I've had a few overdrafts and have used them to get my $35 reimbursed.  You can also use them to reduce your interest rate on loans.  I've never had an issue with them in 11 years.

  • I've used both Affinity and Interbank - not sure if Interbank is considered a credit union though.... but they have good rates on money market accts.  They used to have good rates on CDs, but I don't think anyone has great rates on CDs right now...

  • I've been a member of a credit union my entire life and love it (mine is for trade unions or their blood relatives so there are some stipulations for membership but I know that there are others that are easier to qualify at).  The interest rate on savings accounts isn't any better than a bank but they're typically more willing to loan money and at better rates than the big banks.  There are less fees, they know you, and they go  out of their way to keep you happy because your business is what keeps THEM in business.
  • I've been a member at Wings Financial Credit Union for years, they are absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend them.

I recently considered opening an account at Affinity Plus, and had nothing but problems with them. I called to ask questions about accounts, and was told one thing. When I went to their bank to open account, they said everything the person on the phone had told me was wrong, and they would not honor what the person on the phone had told me. I also had to make an appointment to open an account, and they had no convenient times to do so. So, I made a special trip there to open an account, spent 20-25 minutes working with them on opening one, only to find out that it would not work for me. All due to them not giving me correct information. I am really busy, and was super-irritated with the whole experience. When I was waiting for my appointment to start, I also overheard somebody else having issues because Affinity made some type of mistake on his account. Yikes.

  • I have been with RBCU (Richfield/Bloomington Credit Union) for over 10 years and I wouldn't consider going anywhere else.

  • There was a thread about credit unions a couple months ago that might be helpful too. Credit unions
