Holiday travel ?
I haven't flown on or around a major holiday in quite a few years, but I was wondering how early do you think we should get to the airport? Were 45 minutes away from the airport (actually conveniently were 45 minutes away from all 3 DC area airports). Thanks!

I would make sure you are ready to go through security 2 hours in advance because at the holidays there are far more people traveling and also more families which always takes longer. So I'd say get there and leave an extra hour for dropping off the car and checking in and leaving your bag. (This also depends on what time you are flying the later you go the longer you need. I fly at 6am whenever possible because of shorter lines.)
Also DO NO WRAP GIFTS!!! Hide them under your clothes but if you wrap them and your checked luggage gets searched they can unwrap and open them.

I'm not traveling this holiday, but they had a story about holiday travel on the news yesterday. They recommended that you allow 90 minutes from curb to gate, because security lines were going to be pretty long. And the TSA has the right to open any wrapped gifts, so don't wrap anything!!!!
I thought this too, but oh well! It was easier to not wrap any of the fabric gifts (clothes etc) anyway because then they take up more space in boxes so I just packed a roll of paper and will wrap Saturday morning.

I am a spaz so I need to KNOW that there is no chance whatsoever I will be rushing. So, if Iived 45 mins from the airport for a 6:00 flight I would leave my house at 3:00 --- get to LT parking at 4:00, to security by 4:15, and probably have time for a beer!
I think were leaning towards this option too! I told DH I would rather get there early and hang out and have dinner once were past security than run late...I've been late for a flight once (they were calling my name as I ran through the terminal) and I don't ever want to repeat that!

Ditto all of this (spazitude, running through the airport, enjoying a beer when i way overestimate my time)... MUCH rather the celebratory overpriced beer than sitting in sweaty clothes once I reach the plane in a rush!
