This is work related...
We were preparing a response to a proposal request (RFP) for a City in California. They changed the due date from today to yesterday at 4 because their office is closed today. No problem.
We assembled the package, and got ready to ship it on Wednesday around noon for Thursday delivery. Apparently, between some zip codes, overnight late morning delivery is not guaranteed. This was a bit of a surprise for us because the town is located along a major interstate about 1/2 hour from a big town with a small airport and 2 hours from three major airports in the bay area, the airport in Sacramento and the one in Fresno. So FedEx couldn't guarantee delivery by 4, but 4:30, so there was still a shot. We also included special instructions on the label to deliver by 4pm if possible.
I've been tracking it since it went out. It got out of here before the snow got bad, but went to Fort Worth, TX (WTH, there are 5 airports in the area of CA it could have gone straight to!), then to Oakland. Then it went to Modesto and apparently missed the truck for delivery to the town yesterday afternoon, 2 hours before the deadline. Just got an update on the tracking that it is being delivered today. Well, that's not going to happen, there is no one to sign for it, and it's late, so they won't accept it today, tomorrow or next week. I am so pissed and disappointed.
We even had a local contact there put in a good word for us, and we had a decent shot at getting it, but for those of you familiar with how RFPs work with government agencies, if you miss the deadline, by even a minute, no matter who you are, it will not be accepted. I also feel guilty that he stepped up for us and we botched it.
CRAP!
Re: FedEx is on my naughty list (vent)
That stinks although did the company change the due date at the last minute? You'd think they would have known they would be closing early for Christmas and would have provided you with more notice. Maybe with all the chaos around the holidays, they won't notice if your RFP sneaks in next week!
On the flip side with FedEx, I sent a package to my mom in PA on Tuesday and sent it Express Saver (3 Day shipping). It wasn't supposed to arrive until today but it was delivered the next day by 11 am! I'm so glad I didn't spend extra money to rush ship it but it just goes to show you that FedEx is obviously having some hiccups this holiday shipping season.
