Study spot?

Got any recommendations for a good place to sit & study -- that's open late at night?

Re: Study spot?

  • I have a friend who studies at mc D's. Free wifi.  :)

  • How late?  Urbandale library is open until 9 pm during the week and has individual study rooms.  I've used the individual study rooms at the WDM library too but that was during my undergrad and I have no idea about their hours.

Do you like background noise?  Wi-Fi can be found in Panera, Starbucks, Gateway Market, Mars Cafe, etc.

  • I loved Panera, but it isn't really open late. If the weather were still decent, I'd suggest a park; I loved being able to enjoy the fresh air and get my work done.
  • I always went to the Drake library!!   It's quiet, has comfy chairs and it's open late!!  I would study for an hour then read a "fluff magazine," then go back to studying :).   You don't have to be a student.  The hours are extended now for finals and listed on this website:  http://www.law.drake.edu/library/?pageID=libHours

  • I second the school library...when I need to get serious studying done, I head to the ISU library (I live in Ames) because they're open late, it's quiet, and there are no distractions.
  • As a former drake student, I still have to admit that the DMU library is the best, but they are more particular about who uses it. I was "okayed" b/c adam was a former student. Not sure they'd pick up on it though if you tried.  It isn't good if you like background noise, but that is why it was perfect for me, SO quiet and each space is its own cubicle.

  • Thanks, all!

The time I'm looking for is the 9 PM - midnight-ish range... I love the Urbandale library; I wish it were open later.  I've tried IHOP and Starbucks this week.  What I'm realizing is that I do need the quiet environment more than just the background noise... Perhaps I just need to rig up a better library-like environment in my own home :)  Meanwhile, maybe I'll check out the Drake library next...

  • Village inn and Perkins are both quiet around those times. And VI has free wifi
