If you are FB friends with me, you probably saw my updates last night, but we won $10,000 off of our car yesterday!
Here is the whole long story. This turned out to be crazy long but will give you something to do if you are bored I guess! Buying a car is still the most painful thing imaginable.
We ended up getting the vehicle from a dealership in a different city because the one in our city couldn't/wasn't willing to bring one in for us. There were none in Alberta that fit our specifications. We wanted the V4 engine instead of the V6 for better gas mileage since we have a Ford F150 to do any towing or anything we'd need a bigger engine for. Apparently most people want V6, so V4 with the options we wanted was hard to come by.
DH had been talking to a manager and they found us a vehicle from BC that was driven by a manager there for 3500 kilometres. Still was considered "new" and had full warranty, etc. So they were going to give it to us for $500 less than a new one and throw in a bunch of extras in terms of accessories, etc. DH spent a ton of time negotiating price going back and forth between dealerships and ended up getting us an amazing price for the car. They told us they had two other brand new ones on their way as well so if we didn't want the slightly used one we could take one of those new ones when they came in.
So yesterday we drive up to the city at noon, left Mackenzie with my sister thankfully, to take a look at the vehicle. It was in good shape, but had about 500 km more than they said it did. Also, DH noticed that it did not have the right tires on it. The model we got was supposed to have 18 inch but it only had 17 inch. They would have let us leave with the vehicle with the wrong tires if he hadn't noticed. So that started getting us a bit worried. The manger DH had been dealing with was off yesterday so the other manager comes over to talk to us and he was just a huge a$$. He lets it spill that there were dents and scratches that they fixed. So then we were even more concerned, "how did it get dented?, why are the wrong tires on it?, even though it's not much, how come we were told there were less km then there really are, etc". We ask for a further discount, he says no way. So then we decide we will wait for the brand new one they have coming in.
Well apparently it's not coming anymore. Which makes me wonder if it ever was. We worry that they are trying to screw us over some how by trying to get us to take this one that had been driven. We are frustrated. The manager is being less than nice to say the least. There seems to be a serious lack of communication between who we made the deal with and who is at the dealership yesterday.
So we tell them we want a new one. They only have one on the lot. It's pimped out with running boards, a push bumper, hitch, roof racks, etc. Not the colour we want but we take a look at it and decide it's doable. The originally said they would have to "rip off all the extras", which was fine by us. But then we when actually say we want it, they say that they can't give us that specific one, they'd have to order one in that was that colour. They could bring us in a white one probably, but it would be a few more weeks to get there, etc, etc. I was seriously almost in tears between all the BS and the ***-ish attitude we were getting from the manager.
We were seriously at the dealership for almost 7 hours yesterday! The only way we were leaving there with a car is if we took the one that was manager driven that they had shipped in. We express our concerns, they reassure us a bit, they put the correct tires on it, do a full run through in the shop and we finally decide to take the car and go to fill out all the paperwork.
We sit down to do "Winterfest". Everyone is guaranteed $500 which is already negotiated into our agreed price. They pull up these three snow globes and you choose one, they click on it and it reveals your prize. I pick the right and all of a sudden "you win $10,000" shows up on the screen. I was seriously in shock. Nothing like that ever happens to us!
So then the paperwork gets a bit more complicated. They then try to charge us about $2000 more for the vehicle than our previously agreed price. The manager try to spin some BS story that if you win they have to sell you the car at the suggested retail price, which wasn't even the price they were trying to sell it to us at, it was still lower than that. He tries to pull the "you just won $10,000, what difference does it make" card. We tell him we are not paying more than what we agreed to just because we won. He continues to be a huge ass and finally storms out of the office. The finance guy comes back with the ok to sell it to us at our negotiated price. We have to rush around getting registration and insurance because at this point it is 8:00 at night. But finally get out of there, with our new car, $10,000 cheaper than what we planned on paying!
I think we are going to file a complain with Kia Canada about the whole situation. DH is also going to talk to the original manager he dealt with who wasn't there yesterday. It frustrates me because I feel like we were pigeon holed to get that specific vehicle, although I'm happy with it. I'm less pissed off about the whole situation because we won that sweet deal, but we still had sub-par, at best, customer service.
Well, thanks for reading
Re: Christmas came early for me too!
Wow, that is beyond ridiculous how much guff he gave you!! Good for you for insisting that you get it for what you agreed on! Congrats on the win as well
What vehicle did you end up getting?
What a Jacka$$, he was just pissed because he lost that much commission!
I would totally complain! But how awesome is it that you got 10k off!
Yes, your H should complain to everyone he can. That is terrible.
Good for the 'extra' cash!
What an awesome prize! I'm sure it makes the otherwise crappy experience worth it.

Wow! I can't believe that guy was giving you the run around. I'm glad you stuck up for yourself and that's awesome to get $10k off the price too. I seriously thought those types of contests were rigged so no one won the big amounts.
Congrats!
