Blue Valentine *barely spoilers*
Okay, I had really high hopes for this movie, but I didn't love it. I felt it was....contrived?
I love both ryan gosling and michelle williams, and i thought they were both magnificent in their respective roles, the story just bored me a bit.
As far as marital issue movies, I think I prefer that Kate Winslet movie Revolutionary Road. This one didn't quite cut it.

Re: Blue Valentine *barely spoilers*
I liked it but can see how opinions can be split on this one. I liked it because I appreciate and love Ryan and Michelle and thought they were great. BUT at the end, I was terribly depressed!
I really enjoyed Revolutionary Road as well.
Baking Blog
I liked it...I felt it was better than Revolutionary Road...
But...BV did leave me hanging....
Blog: Call Me Imelda
this movie was raw and intense.
definitely not something i would ever want to watch again, but ryan and michelle were great.
that said, i too preferred revolutionary road.
I feel that way about a lot of oscar contender films.
I'll be watching BV soon (thanks Netflix!), but I loved the book RR and only mildly liked the movie. If you want a great movie about marital troubles, watch Rabbit Hole. Holy sh!t it's depressing, but I thought it was great.
Ryan Gosling said that Blue Valentine can be thought of as a companion movie to The Notebook...which left me in a better mood than the cliff hanger at the end.
Revolutionary Road was a lot more depressing/sad. Kate Winslets character seemed to *hate* her husband and hate her life in general...whereas Williams' character seemed to be just tired of life...the daily grind, etc.
I couldnt even finish this movie, I just got bored with it. I love both Ryan and Michelle but I just couldnt watch.
I do love Revolutionary Road though and havent seen Rabbit Hole.
