How do you split the holidays if its amicable?

I should probably introduce myself, but I may need to DD.

edit

Thing is-we are great friends still....no fighting and I don't think we'll disagree on much when the papers are filed. We are already working a lot out now.

So this was the first holiday "separated" but we still did most of it together. My question is, when we both have SO (we both do now, but decided to keep the holidays the same for this year), we know we will have to do some things differently. The kids are still, and will continue to be deleriously happy. Two homes...lots of love, etc. But neither H nor I come from a "split home". We have no clue and we are sort of writing our own rule book here.

I am learning a LOT here. TY:)

Re: How do you split the holidays if its amicable?

  • Hi Mrs Evans! Long time!

We do every other holiday. This Christmas was mine, next will be his.Since my kids are older it has gotten easier. Easter and thanksgiving the same way. Lucky for me sometimes he has to work on holidays and i get to keep them :) We are also on very friendly terms and he spent xmas this year with us.

  • We alternate holidays too - Christmas Eve for one and then Christmas Day for the other.  Rotating that every other year.  We also split the two week Winter Break for our DD too - the first week with me and the second week with XH.  Good luck!
  • Welcome!

I am on very amicable terms w the X so we both usually see them on all the holidays. We just split the day, ex: Cmas- the boys were with me in the am (went to my dads) then I dropped them off at their dads for a couple hours. I picked them up later that afternoon to go to my moms.

Just try things how you think will be best for your situation, then adjust it later if you think something may work better.

    GL!

  • I picture Christmas Eve being all together. Then getting together to watch the kids open presents while they are little in the morning. I just can't see that changing UNLESS DH finds someone with a kid. Or has another kid.  Chrstmas Day I can see us splitting up for awhile and then maybe meeting up at the end of the night.

I just think I want it the same every year.  just remember having the same rituals every year and how much I loved that. I know the girl he is dating now seems to be cool with the idea. I guess we will see.

  • I have 2 kids with 2 dads so mine is a little more jumbled. My DD spends Thanksgiving break with her dad every year because we don't really do much at my house. She spends Christmas Eve with me and we open presents at Christmas morning then she goes to her dad's late morning and spends most of Christmas break there.

My DS spends Thanksgiving day with his dad each year.  Christmas Eve is when his family celebrates together, so he's with his dad on Christmas Eve day and is home by dinner time so I have him Christmas.

  • FH has 4 kids, I have 0.  What we did on Christmas was we actually spent it at his Ex-Wife's house.  We all are good friends, so it works out best for us.

It'll be rocky, but it is possible to spend holidays together if everyone gets along!

  • Thanksgiving - EH has odd years

Easter - EH has even years

I have every Christmas Eve and morning until 1:00.  He has Christmas Day from 1:00 on.  We may start doing one Santa Christmas next year.  We talked about changing that this year but it was too late to return gifts, etc.

    NYE - his (his bday)
