Worst present?

What's the worst present you got this year? I know it's the thought that counts but bad presents are entertaining. So what did you get that you wish you didn't get??

Re: Worst present?

  • My worst was from one of my coworkers - she gave me a statue thing of Mary, Jesus and Joseph. I am not religious at all - I had to ask someone else to be sure that was Joseph. I have no idea what I'm going to do with that - Goodwill I guess.

  • i really liked everything i got...except my dad got me a pulse-oximeter (the thing they put on your finger at the hospital which reads your pulse and your oxygen saturation level). i mean...the thought was nice (he's concerned about my well-being and when my hemoglobin was low, my oxygen level was low too). i just don't see myself walking around with it on my finger on  daily basis. although, it might be nice when i get my transplant so i can easily report back to my transplant nurse.

also..he got my napkins and tablecloths from samsclub. i mean, nice...but if i was going to use something like that in my home, they wouldnt be cheapies from sams. i use those for tailgating. they might go back bc i already have tailgate tablecloths.

  • As stated in the holiday post, the MSU football from MIL.
  • My worst preent always comes from one of my aunt's. It's seriously pathetic. This year she got me some horrible crap perfume from Victora's Secret that smells the way neon pink looks, a ratty scarf, and a children's sweater. She gave J a bottle of blackberry merlot from arbor mist. (a $3.99 bottle of flavoured wine cooler which we promptly regifted as a joke!)
  • It was honestly a really nice thought, but my coworker gave me scrapbooking paper and stickers for the new baby.  I am really picky about the products I use and I also really tend to hate traditionally baby stuff in scrapbooking.  My mom got mad at me and made me feel ungrateful when I told her I probably wouldn't use it.  I said thank you to the woman and was very nice about it, but scrapbooking is a hobby for me to be able to express my creativity and if something doesn't make me want to use it then my hobby feels like a chore and I end up not liking what I make with it.  Totally besides the whole point of me even doing it.
  • I got some used, earrings made of wood that are shaped like a  heart from an aunt. They came inside a cute coffee mug. I would of been more than happy with an empty coffee mug. The earrings are in bad shape. I don't think she noticed how bad they really look. She has some really nice jewlery and I wouldn't of cared if it was used but the poor earrings look bad.

Smell the way neon pink looks AND a flavored malt beverage?  One word: Awesome.  You think I'm kidding (I am not).

Anyway, to answer the Q for myself-- everything was fine/nice.  Did have a funny though-- I hate "body humor" (e.g. woopie cushions, the word f@rt, --- these are things I totally despise, like, alot).  Anyway, H likes the occasional f@rt noise, joke, or actual thing and finds it amusing that I'm "uptight" about them.  Whatever.

So as a joke he bought Beeno and put it in, what he thought was my stocking (note: all our stockings are labeled w/ our names and hang on hooks, also engraved w/ our names).  But fine.  When I "opened" my stocking, it wasn't there.  So he's like, "I think there's something else, check again".  I check, nothing.  So he suggests I double check L's (the dog) stocking.  Fine.  I do, again nothing.  At this point he's completely confused.  Finally I ask, hey you didn't put it in the un-labeled, non-hanging stocking (for my friend when she arrives on the 29th), did you?  H:  "I don't think so, but check".  Sure enough-- jackpot!  Thank God I found it, I would have been embarrassed to explain this to my poor friend. Nothing like Beeno to say, 'hey, thanks for crossing the Atlantic to see us"!

  • i feel bad but a friend of mil's makes scarves and she made a hat and scarf set for me and they are just nms. makes me feel terrible thrifting it because it's hand made.

How much do you want for it?!?! I really need to buy a new one for work and just can't bring myself to spend the money. I was going to try and buy it with my FSA but I was afraid they'd ask for a letter of medical necessity!

  • Honestly I didn't get a single awful gift. I was being ungrateful and disappointed in the foodsaver but I do really want one LOL.

  • I should preface this with: H and I's ideas of gift giving at Christmas are really different. Last year he got me a pair of driving gloves that were too small, said he would exchange them, but ended up returning them and I got nothing. This year I sent him an e-mail with links to everything I liked, and a link to my pinterest page just in case he needed some more inspiration. This year he has "forgotten" mother's day, got me a belt that didn't fit for our anniversary, and didn't really do a gift for my birthday.

So, H got me earrings that were similar to the cheapy $28 ones I posted on pinterest, but weren't the same. If they were real they would be about a carat each, round in a silver setting. I put them on and my earlobes sag because they're so heavy, not to mention they sit out so far on my ears. I feel bad but I asked him to return them. No point in keeping something I'm not going to wear. He also got me a new charm for my charm bracelet, except that mine is the traditional link type and he got me a charm that is for one of those cord bracelets where the charms are more like beads.

*queue the violin* I feel really ungrateful even typing this but I was pretty disappointed.

  • Oh boy!

I got a pain of sandals that have a big toe protector. I thought maybe it was a little joke but it didn't seem like it. It was from my in-laws. I can probably use them as boat sandals.

(Backstory: when we were in Portugal, my big toenail was ripped off after getting caught in the seat moving backwards. It was horrible. On the brighter side, my new nail is growing in!)

  • Nothing was too bad. My SIL got me a pair of earrings that look like they're for a teenager. But she's 12 so she gets a pass.

My in-laws gave us a "free" hotel night using their hotel rewards points. I shouldn't complain because it's a free night, just feels cheap since they're not spending money on it.

This is why I state explicitly what I want.  There was one year I wanted a red sweater from Old Navy.  H was going shopping and I went so far as to tell him exactly where in the store he could find the sweater.   This year I wanted an electric shaver and I showed him the link to it on Amazon.  I know what I want and make sure he knows it is what I want not something "like" it.

Sorry you didn't get very good gifts.

I think you win the bad gift award this year. I'm sorry they were so sucky :( J never gets me anything for Valentine's, my b-day, our anniversary.. or really for Christmas so I understand the disappointment

Agreed.  Definitely start buying your own gifts.

Thanks! I worded my original post wrong, my e-mailed list had direct links to everything. We set a budget for gifts and we both like to have options so I gave him more links than what was in our budget, it should have been fool proof. I think that he waited until the last minute, looked for earrings similar to the ones I wanted on Amazon and got those because we get free shipping and he also ordered a book for me.

And yes, I know I should just start buying my own gifts but that seems so sucky! LOL
