Toy storage for large and random toys
We have larger toys such a remote control trucks and large games. We also have the random toy like a doctors bag/kit etc. Im wondering what you use to store these doys? We have sleves and bins for smaller items, but not sure what to do with all the bigger stuff?
Thanks

Re: Toy storage for large and random toys
If your husband is a handy carpenter, there are kits at Lowe's that include everything you need to build a toy box. Our friend made one for his daughter, and it's beautiful! Or if there isn't one big enough in kit form, your husband could figure out the dimensions of one big enough for all the toys.
If you don't have enough space in your bedroom for a big toy box, I would recommend putting it in the living room as a decorative shelf or coffee table. Instead of painting it a solid color, you could stain it to match your living room furniture. That's what we're going to do once DD is big enough to leave toys around everywhere!
I don't have any great suggestions. I struggle with this too!
I use really large bins to put some of the big toys away (either off to the side of the room or in the attic when I am cycling through toys). My parents have a large bookcase where they put the large trucks/toys away. Bookcases work well for board games too. Neither of these solutions are very pretty but at least it is neat....We have a few large cranes and ramps that are simply too big so they just go in a corner (or my basement when I get sick of it!)
I have had a lot of luck cycling through toys. Sometimes I bring out a new box every few days, once a week, twice a month etc. Just depends how much we've been home to play with the current toys. I find I can get away with having fewer toys out if they are excited and actually playing with the toys!

The above two, DH put together for DS...we have tiny baskets which fit the small matchbox cars, little figureines, etc. Each BIG truck has its own box
We just slide it into the box area which best fits said truck.
Now everything is organized & clean. DS could now find everything.
IMHO...it looks just as good if not better than the daycare play centers
Baskets! I am an avid basket-lover
Target has some really cute toy-storage ones. I saw one there that has a little chalkboard on the front where you could label it "toys" or even with your child's name.
Another good place to try for baskets is Michael's or Walmart. Or, you could find a cute window-seat bench to hide them away & I've also seen coffee tables where the lid comes off and it can be a good hideaway for toys/misc.
we have a huge Expedit shelf system (the 5x5 cube one) and just got another 4x2 one this week b/c the toys are out of hand
for really large toys we have some of those huge "buckets" from walmart - we also keep stuffed animals in there (my boys love them, i hate them, this contains them all and the boys know we have to get rid of some if they don't fit in the bucket).
i have some of the expedit shelves with bins that are labeled with tags (i use luggage tags)... which is great b/c the boys know where everything goes and it helps with cleanup.
Some of the shelves are open for larger toys and books.
