Which do you prefer & why? Thanks!

Re: Costco or Sam's?

  • We like Costco - they have more healthier options, IMO.  Hummus, organic, natural, vegetarian, etc.

  • I love Costco. It's much closer to our house and I just find more things I can use there. I think thier produce and meat departments are great!

  • I also love Costco,  the produce, seafood and meat departments are great. I like the seasonal items too.  :)
  • I prefer costco, but I belong to Sam's due to location to our house.  My mom has a membership to Costco and it is nicer, the people are friendlier and sometimes at Sam's they will have an item one week, and 3 weeks later, not have it at all.

I do like the produce section at Sam's as well as their chicken they carry (doesn't have too much sodium) and the price is great!

  • Costco. They send you a coupon book every month, and it usually has items in it that are things that we would normally buy there anyway, so the savings via the coupons is usually enough to cover our yearly membership fee. I also really love all the kirkland brand stuff. We buy a lot of it...laundry detergent (they have their own version of All Free and Clear and it works great), fabric softener, olive oil, water, milk, frozen salmon (amazing!) etc etc.

  • Costco...for all the reasons listed by others. Plus it's not affiliated with Walmart :)

  • We've joined Sam's in the past, and never even got our money's worth out of the membership because we never went.  We joined Costco about 2 months ago and I LOVE it!  We go there ALL the time!  I'm always finding great things there, both in bulk and in smaller quantities.  I think their prices are super reasonable too.
  • How much is a Costco membership?  We have a Sam's Club membership through my uncle's business (so it's free to us) and I maybe go 4x/year.  I went more when we lived in Millard, but now that we live in Elkhorn, it's a big trek.  Whenever I bring up joining Costco DH points out that we never even use our Sam's Club membership, so why should we pay to join another club.  I think this may change when we get a freezer and/or have a baby.
  • $50/year.  It pays for itself!

  • We do the executive membership.  It's $100, but with it you also earn 2% back on everything you buy.  We buy the majority of our stuff there, so our rebate check averages about $200/year.  I LOVE Costco!

  • We're members at Costco, but I needed a few things for Christmas so I printed off a one-day pass to Sams. Yuck. Well, first of all, I think the whole parking area in that L Street shopping complex is a nightmare to get in and out of. The employees were not helpful whatsoever. Sure there's more products, but it wasn't anything that I'd buy - just 100 different kinds of gum as opposed to 20 at Costco....Prices did seem comparable though. However, I think Costco has a lot better clothing and home goods. Kind of like comparing Wal-Mart to Target I thought.

We do this too. It's worth it for us because we shop there pretty regularly.

We buy a lot of things in bulk - bottled water, diapers, wipes, toilet paper, paper towels. We also get milk there (1% organic). I love the produce at Costco.  DH buys all of our meat, either there or at Fareway. I also like the Kirkland brand laundry detergent.

My dad got a giant tv for his 60th birthday so we get the 2% credit for that too, since we used our membership :)

  • I have both and much prefer to shop at costco than sams. I feel like I am just shopping at a glorified walmart when at sams PLUS costco is much cleaner in my opinion especially their carts. Sam's are gross.
  • oh and the employees at costco are about 100x's friendlier. Plus they have more and way better samples all the time. Big Smile
  • Ok, Costco it is. Thanks, ladies!
