Re: Inductions
Might depend on how far along you are and what your Doc's plan is.
I went in the night before for Cervadil. In the morning they took that out and started the Pit. They broke my water a few hours into the Pit. I was only 37 weeks and change and was my first kid and I had literally zero progress. I was totally unfavorable for induction but was doing it b/c of my worsening Pre-E.
It's your second kid and you're further along - do you have any effacement/dilation anything going on? I think that really helps dictate how 'favorable' you are and hopefully how fast it all goes!
GL!!!! Who is your labor buddy? If you need one I'm happy to let everyone know, just FB me your cell and I'll do the same.
I know everyone will be different, but I've never really paid much attention to how it all goes, as I never figured I'd end up with one, especially for a second kid due to being overdue.
I am 2cm but "thick" with the head high. So, I'm not sure where that will leave me as for favorability. The person I met with today really couldn't tell me what the plan would be. She said the OB would let me know when I got there what he was going to do. So, I'm still in the dark as to how it will all go down.
Is there a lot of down time? Should I bring stuff to occupy H and myself?
Morrigan is my buddy, so I'll keep her posted.
I remember reading this when facing my induction. I have no idea how accurate it is but it's a way to 'calculate' how favorable you are given the progress you already have and if you've given birth before, etc.
Based on this I was a 0. ZERO. Basically all signs pointing to it maybe not going so well. I think it says anything less than 6 gets the cervix ripening gel (like Cervadil).
I only ever got to 9cm dilation and Jane was still at -3 station and I managed to push her out. So, yes inductions can end in c-sections and ones that you think will (mine!) end up working out.
As far as what happens. The Cervadil caused painful but non-productive contrax for me. I wasn't up for doing anything. I also had issues with my Epi. Given that, I was not really comfortable ever or in the mood to do anything. However, if I could have been made comfortable I was there for a Looooooong time and would have welcomed distraction. I guess it just depends. I'd say bring a book, your computer if the place has wireless, etc.
I was induced 10 days past my due date with Abby. I wasn't even a fingertip dilated and she was still up high, so I wasn't too favorable, but she needed to come out...lol
I went in at 6pm and got the cervidil inserted. I had to remain laying for 2 hours I think. Then I was able to sit up and move around a bit. Around 10pm I was moved to a delivery room (I had been in a sorta triage room until then). Contractions were getting worse and around 1am I felt like I had to pee. I stood up and OMG water gushed. DH pointed and laughed and was like, haha you are peeing yourself! Ended up being my water breaking. They checked me and I was 3cm. So I was like whoohoo things are gonna get going now!
Nope.... by 9am my contractions were really bad so I got my epi. Then they checked me and I was still at 3cm and she was high up. She wasn't moving down and therefore I wasn't dilating more. Fast forward to 3:15pm - still only 3cm, no more progress made and my BP was really low. We made the decision to have a c/s. Then Abby was born at 4:07pm.

I'm okay with however it will end at this point, whether it be c/s or a drawn out vaginal delivery, as long as it ends. Alex was 30 hours of labor with 3 hours of pushing, so much for everyone saying the second will be easier/faster. This kid is much more stubborn than Alex, so I guess we're in trouble for the future
I realized last night that including the m/c, I have been pregnant for 13 of the last 14 months. I'm starting to feel like an elephant. This kid needs to be out before January.
I believe you are at the same hospital I was for Evie.
Got there around 8. Had to wait for my dr. But got breakfast delivered to the room for nick and I. The hospital plan includes food for you and your husband. They got me hooked up to an I've and had the monitors put in my belly. They plugged in piticin and started to monitor me. Buffy the vampire slayer marithon was on so we started watching that. The nurse came in and would up pitocin. Oh when they started pitocin my dr also broke my water, I think that helped things go quickly. They gave me a refillable water bottle. They allowed me to eat. You can walk around if you want. Your husband will have to push the pole with I've and pitocin. He will also help unplug you from the machines when you bathroom. you can also get in the tub if you want while being induced.
If you need anything I'm close by. Txt me if you have any questions. Oh that hospital has a snack room with juice apple sauce bagels yogurt etc.

Ok Megan, I may have forgotten your situation, but that's exactly what happened with me! Only I ended up with a c-section at the end.
I went in at 42 weeks. I had to have an hour or so of monitoring first and placement of the IV. Then a resident checked me (0 dilation) and placed the cervadil. I think I had to have 2 hours on the monitors with the cervadil. Then they took the monitors off so I could sleep.
The next morning, they removed the cervadil and hooked me back up to the monitors. Then my doctor checked me (still no progress) and started the pitocin. I spent all day on the pitocin with no progress. So at 5 pm, they stopped the pitocin. I had to spend another hour on the monitors.
Then they unhooked me and I was able to eat dinner and drink liquids. Then we started the whole process over again. By noon the next day, I still had not dilated at all. So we decided to go for a c-section. If I had dilated some, my doctor would have broken my water to see if that helped things but I wasn't dilated enough for her to get in to break my water.
The good news is - despite being on pitocin for all of that time at a high dose and the monitors showing contractions every minute to minute and a half, I never felt them. So at least I wasn't in pain all of that time. Bad news is that it just didn't work for me and I ended up with a c-section. I don't think my situation is all that typical though.
Good luck!
ETA: Yes, I would prepare for a lot of down time. Take something to read or do. And take a pillow or two for you and your DH. The L&D beds at my hospital at least were incredibly uncomfortable (more so than the ones on the regular maternity ward).
Thanks for the stories of how it could all possibly go.
Morrigan, I am delivering at the same hospital as you. Even though the hospital said to go in at 7AM, my doctor's office said to get there at 6:30 to get set up before shift change. My nieces mother is a L&D nurse there and is working tonight, so hopefully she can get things set up quickly. Good to know about the food situation. Where I had Alex had great food for the mothers, but the fathers got nothing.
I'll be sure to pack a book tonight and grab pillows in the morning.
I just posted my story on Katie's post. But mine was super fast.
We got there at 6:30am (got IV, etc). I think around 8:30-9am the doctor broke my water. I was pushing around 10, and Landon was born at 1:01pm.
I didn't have any down time.
Good luck! Can't wait to meet your LO.

GL tomorrow, Jill! I hope that you have a quick induction and labor. Positive vibes!!!
I went in the night before to get Cervadil. It didn't do much except cause me a lot of discomfort overnight. I received pitcoin around 6:30am, had my water broken around 10, was a 10 around 7:30pm, and Liam didn't arrive until 11:49pm.
My boring blog
I remember! We were on bed-rest at the same time!
My induction was super easy and I was "favorable" at 3-4cm/70-80% thinned. Goes to show that everyone is different!
You'll be great! Best of luck and we can't wait to "meet" little miss!!
