anyone have any good holiday stories?

My dad called me last night. I thought he was mad we'd left their house early (my aunts and uncle were there).

He called to tell me his sister had JUST LEFT (this was 5 hrs after I left - and she lives less than a mile away). She had not shut up the entire time I was there. There's a lot more to this, but take that as she's annoying. Anyway, the main story:

At Christmas Eve at his cousin's, my Aunt had asked my dad if he minded if she gave the bottle of wine my mom had (just) given her to their cousin, as she hadn't brought anyhting for this particular relative. My dad said sure, not having any idea my mom had given wine to everyone (he only knew about the presents for the kids I guess). My mom had bought a case of 6 of the same bottles from Costco..

so...

my aunt gave their cousin the EXACT SAME bottle of wine my mom had given them 5 minutes earlier.

Regift fail.

Re: anyone have any good holiday stories?

  • LOL, Emily that's bad.

So we had the dog drama, that someone of you know about.  Well the dog ended up in our apartment but the best part was the other dogs were in the house the whole time and were awful.  It was an excuse to leave early...

  • None as funny as that! My mom step-dad and dad all stayed with us (they get along) but my dad got here and took the nicer guest room. So of course my mom made a few comments about how there were more pictures of my dad than them, and why did he get the nicer room. I asked how everyone slept Christmas morning and my mom said "awful" and that I must be getting her back for the uncomfortable bed she has in the guest room we stay in at their house. Um thanks Mom... The guest bed at my moms is horrible I hate it. I've mentioned it once or twice but her response is "we don't sleep down there" so we stay in it and I just keep it to myself...one night was about all I could take.

  • My grandfather gave his lady friend a diamond necklace. She gave him an alarm clock. (crickets)

Christmas Eve, M and I went to pick up the ham for my inlaws. I dropped M off b/c the line was a little long and ran to the chick-fli-a to get a coffee. I came back and pulled around to the parking lot to park. I was waiting for a car to back out so I could park, M had come out by then and was standing outside the passenger side door. (we had to go to another shop in the same shopping center.) Long story short a guy backed into my driver side door. I had been siting dead stopped for 20-30 seconds. He got out of the car and the first thing he said was I had whipped around the corner. At that point I just stayed in the car and let Mike handle it. While we were exchanging ins info, the man said, "I have your address now I'll just come on over to and we can settle this with my .357." (gun) M informed him that he was concealed carrying and the guy shut up. Not to be discriminatory, but the man looked like Santa on heroin. Open sores on his face, long finger nails, just all around creepy. My car is 10 years old, and really the damage is very minor. Had he not been such an a$$ I wouldn't have even made a claim. I didn't hear what he said to M, or I would have called the police and pressed charges. Oh well...

  • Emily - that's hilarious!

Crystal - Scary! I definitely would have reported that if someone had said it to me. Especially since you also have all of his information.

Nothing too out of the ordinary or funny, but my grandparents bought Matt and training parachute for running. My younger cousins were very interested in it so we got it out and played with it outside. First, it's really funny looking. Especially on little kids. But then Matt tried it and my 7 year old cousin was running too close to him and got caught up in the parachute and got taken out by it. Everyone was cracking up. Of course, we were doing this in the front yard of their house. I'm sure people thought we were crazy.

  • We gave this to my mom (without the extra loopy things added on the sides) and will be sending one to Andrew's mom.

We were going to wait a lot longer but with the news about Andrew's mom we decided we should tell her after our first appointment which is next week, assuming everything looks good.

My mom was suspicious when I turned down an alcoholic beverage so we decided to tell her.  I had the bib handy just in case.  I put it in her stocking.

    Kasi-congrats!!

Thank you.  I was very hesitant to say anything, even to our families at this point but it was really hard to hide it.  Last week at another family gathering people started suspecting it because I was sick.  Then with the news about Andrew's mom we felt we should give her some good news to cheer her up some.

  • Congrats Kasi!!!!!

Bella HATES my MIL and SIL. Hisses at them whenever she sees them, or even sometimes when she hears them in another room. Of course neither of them are mature enough to just ignore her and continue to engage her. Then she hisses again and they get annoyed. What did you think would happen dipsh!t? It also causes the cats to fight with each other. Needless to say they are never staying with us for a holiday again.

  • Yay, Kasi! Congrats!!

No pictures. It was pretty spur of the moment. I will probably take a photo of Matt actually using the thing. It's very goofy looking!

  • Emily- That is hilarious!

    Crystal- I agree with Jules.

Kasi- Congrats!  I'm so happy for you and A and Suri, too!

Nothing too funny happened at our Christmas just something kind of sweet.  My grandmother had a huge milestone of her own and made her very first cell phone call yesterday at the age of 92. :)  Very sweet.  She was so excited.  I helped her buy and set up a Senior Jitterbug phone yesterday that she can carry with her at all times (the women still walks 3 miles most mornings) and when she goes on Dial-a-Ride just to feel safer.

  • I was sworn to secrecy but oh well. Brian threw out his back Christmas morning and couldn't get off the floor. When he finally did get up to go to the bathroom he couldn't straighten up and was in lots of pain. So his mom went down to their basement and brought up her walker from when she had her hip replaced. So DH walked down the hall with the aid of a walker. And it squeaked the whole way. And the rest of us sat in the living room and giggled. Poor guy.
  • CONGRATS Kasi!!!
  • That is hilarious Mary!!  Did you get any pics?

    Thanks everyone.
