A Poll for anyone who has ever had to shop at Lane Bryant

Re: A Poll for anyone who has ever had to shop at Lane Bryant

  • Yes, but only because it was the only place I could go to that had clothes and bras that fit after I had Sam... I hated it because that's where my mother and my sister always shop, and they're both much bigger than me, and I felt like I was never going to get back down to Old Navy sizes... it sucked. =(

ETA:  Don't hate me -- I'm not trying to be mean.  Just honestly answering the question asked.

  • I did SS, because it really depends on the day. I've never bought anything from LB but I do shop at Torrid and although it does make me feel like crap some times that I have to shop at a special store for some items, I would rather wear cute things than stuff that was too tight/small.

Plus I figure, if I go by myself, I'm the only one who knows where I bought it from. :)

  • I voted special snowflake. I don't love having to shop in stores like Lane Bryant; it would much easier if I could walk into ON or a department store and just find things that I knew were going to fit. That I know is not going to happen.

I feel worse when I go into a department store and try to buy something plus size and it doesn't fit. The plus size brands sold in department stores are not the same as those sold in Lane Bryant. Most a regular brands that happen to make plus size clothing that are never cut/made for an actual plus size person.

I would much rather go into a store like Lane Bryant and deal with the "stigma" of shopping in a plus size store and know that the clothes are going to fit and are going to be flattering to my plus size body.

I'm going to toot my own horn here a little and say I think I have great style. I try to always look put together no matter what size the article of clothing is as long as it looks flattering. I would much rather look better in a size bigger than my normal than look squeezed into something in my regular size.

Big hugs to you.  I also had a serious breakdown in a mall almost 3 yrs ago b/c I couldn't find a nice dress to wear to a wedding. NOTHING in my closet fit and the stores did not have any nice dresses in the plus size dept.  (F-U Macy's!).  Since when do big bows and shapeless frocks/MooMoos make voluptuous women look good?! Turns out Nordstroms has a really nice plus sized section and I found something there.

So back to LB.  At first I hated it, was embarrassed to walk in there. Now, I go there and know I will have an outfit that fits well and is stylish.  I completely agree with what Law said. I'd rather go into a plus sized store and find an outfit that fits well than try to stuff myself into a smaller size.  If you feel good in an outfit you will look good. What should it matter what the number on the label says? Cut it out. I do that sometimes. I think I dress a lot better now that I've accepted shopping at LB and other places like JessicaLondon.com.

    This x1000000.

I have self-esteem and body issues, so no matter where I shop, I still think I look awful, but spending 5 hours at the mall and coming home with nothing, versus feeling like a cow at LB and getting 3 outfits in an hour seems like no contest.

  • I said yes- only because I dont feel like I need to, however, I feel that an entire market of people like me with large bewbs are not catered to. I can wear most normal clothing but I cannot wear most tops. Its a struggle. At lane bryant I can find a button down which is nice, but I feel terrible about buying it. I will say I do shop their lingerie and LOVE it-

by the way its buy two get two bras free- they are the only ones I love now.

  • Yes and for that reason, I tend to buy most clothing online now. If I can try something on in the privacy of my own home, no one will see my "I look like a stuffed sausage in this" meltdown.
