Camera recs?

My camera was stolen out of my purse when my car was broken into the other week.  After enduring Christmas morning with only my piece of crap camera phone to take pics of dd opening her gifts I have decided a new camera can't wait.

I would love to splurge on a fancy SLR, but I just can't justify it after recent unexpected expenses, so point and shoot it is I suppose.  The camera I had stolen was a Canon Powershot, and I really liked it but am interested in what others like.  Thanks!

  • I'm really happy with my Canon powershot SD 1400 is.

We bought it a little over a year ago and it's great.  We took it on our honeymoon to the Caribbean.  I think we took close to 200 pictures, and we didn't have to charge the camera battery once.

  • I got my DH a Nikon Coolpix a few years ago.  I think I paid a little over $100 for it, but it really has awesome quality for a point and shoot.

  • Granted, I have no idea how much it costs, but DH just got me a new Sony NEX-C3 digital camera for Christmas.  It's the new one that looks like a point and shoot but has the interchangable lenses.  Mine came with a zoom lens and it's awesome.  It's super easy to use and although we've only taken a few photos on Christmas Day, I can already tell how much better the photos are compared to my old Cannon Powershot.

  • We have a Panasonic L (something) from CostCo.  It's been really great.  I also have had wonderful luck with Nikon Coolpix in the past.  I don't think you could go wrong with either.  Try both and pick the one with the fastest shutter speed to capture kiddo smiles!

This is what makes me want to just pull the trigger and splurge on a nicer camera!

  • For Christmas we bought ourselves a Canon Powershot Elph 310 and we really like it so far.  It has a lot of settings but is still easy to point & shoot.
  • I have a 4 yr old Canon Powershot and have always liked it. However, since smartphones have such good cameras now, I don't think I would buy a new point & shoot if mine were to break.  The newest iPhone has a better camera than my Canon.  I'd rather just get a new phone and use that camera for point & shoot type stuff, then save up for a DSLR. Anyway that wasn't what you asked. I definitely like Canons. :)
