Re: Self healing mat?
I have an Olfa 24"x36" self healing mat. I recommend getting the biggest you can afford. It makes it so much easier to work with. I also have an Olfa cutter. If you plan to quilt, a 60mm would be fine. But I prefer my 28mm for cutting out anything with curves or that isn't a big straight line.
Ditto this. I got mine at JoAnn's with a coupon for 40 or 50% off. It is the same size as mentioned above, mostly because space does not allow anything bigger at this time.

CraftyMrs, you are slowly becoming my favorite on this board, lol! I am learning so much from you! Very happy to learn teacher's get discounts at JoAnns for 2 reasons: 1. They are about to open a store in Baton Rouge and 2. Because I will be a teacher in just a few short months!!!
Aww you made my morning! Michael's also does teacher discounts, I think it's 10%.
