More car questions...

I know a couple of you have the Volvo XC90, but does anyone have the Volvo XC60?  The XC90 doesn't have nearly the tech specs/gadgets that the XC60 has.  Also, the XC90's navigation system is awful, just all around old technology compared the the XC60.  But since the XC60 is a newer brand, I am not having much luck finding real life opinions on the vehicle.  If you have one, what are your thoughts?

Anyone have the Ford Edge?  I know Odear does and I am going to pick her brain, but I wanted more opinions.  The options/technology on this vehicle are AMAZING.  I was blown away by all that it can do, especially the fact that your car emits Wifi.  I can give F my Kindle and she can watch streaming video, how awesome would that be?

I currently have an Acura MDX and I want something smaller with better technologies.  The 2012 Acura is basically the same as my 2008, which is nice, but doesn't have all the neat features like blind spot assist, park assist, etc...  anyone have any other recs?  We have test driven and ruled out the Lexus RX350 and Mazda Cx-9.

Re: More car questions...

  • Are you sure about the park assist on the new MDX? My SIL test drove one a month ago and said it had that and backup cameras...she currently has a Mercedes SUV and wants to trade it for the MDX. She also drove one of the Volvos you mentioned but not sure which, and ruled it out, and she drove another 2012 Mercedes SUV but said the MDX was better.

  • MDX with Technology (navi) has a rearview camera, but no park assist, which is what I would want.  The MDX with Advance has the blind spot info and braking system, same as the Volvo but for $10k more, but still no park assist.  And I am pretty set on something smaller.  My MDX is destroyed from our single car door garage and my terrible driving.

  • I sat in a decked out CR-V at the Honda dealer last week that was pretty sweet; I'm eyeing it for my next car. No WiFi but it had a roof mounted DVD player in the backseat, backup sensors, Nav, and Integrated Bluetooth. I haven't driven it yet, though.

  • Your signature pic is adorable.  She looks so comfortable with that charming Santa!

I can understand wanting more and better technology in your vehicle.  I'm new to the rearview camera and GPS but now wonder how I ever lived without them. Streaming video sounds super cool.  And anything that helps me park better would be awesome.

I know you didn't allude to this in your original post and it's nosy of me to ask, but are you one and done?  I've found that as my girls have gotten older I've only wanted bigger vehicles.  We outgrew our XC90 this year, but when we bought it five years ago I never would have imagined that.  I like having easily accessible extra seating for carpool, Girl Scouts and play dates.  But F is still a young preschooler and if you aren't having another child, the vehicles you mentioned loaded with technology sound great.

  • I have the same year model Edge odear does, and I still love it.  We have the Limited that has everything except the tv/navigation.

I drove a new one this summer as a rental and almost died...I loved it!  The wifi is awesome, but as a driver - everything is right in front of you.  You can see the temp controls, sound system, etc on the dash right in front of you, instead of having to look down.  The controls are still on the steering wheel, so it seems really safe.

I have the electric lift gate also.  It wasn't something we though we'd have to have, but now that I've used it I love it.  You cannot install and infant seat in the middle, but even with either of his carseats in, I can still get two adults in the back.  It isn't great for a four hour drive, but driving around town is fine.  I also like that the back seats recline slightly - it makes his forward facing seat sit a little better and is more comfortable.

My ONLY complaint on my model is that there are no hanging clothes hooks in the cargo area.  They have to be hung beside the seat.  We take mostly road trips, so that annoys me frequently.  Besides that, I'm still loving my car.  It is 3 years old, but I don't think it feels that way.

  • I haven't bought it yet, but I am going to pick up the XC60 soon.  I'm not sure if we can pull together our crap to be able to buy one this weekend, but let me know if you end up buying one in the new year.  Maybe we can coordinate to work a better deal.

  • Love our Subaru TriBeCa.

We don't have the navigation, so I don't know what theirs is like... We All have that on our phones so it wasn't important in a vehicle where the technology would be old too quickly.
