Help with NYD menu

Ok, I'm gearing up for the big day and I need some help.  I usually do some sort of meat and rolls for sandwiches, mac & cheese, pork & sauerkraut, and various apps.  I'm thinking about skipping the pork this year.  Thoughts?

Meatballs

Roast beef (w/rolls)

Crockpot mac & cheese

Baked brie

0602's pretzel dip

Buffalo chicken dip

Any other ideas?  Should I make a ziti?  I feel like I need another side bu then that feels like a lot of pasta.

Keep in mind that we're the end of the parade route, so by the time people get to my house at 5-6pm, this is all drunk food to fill people's bellies.  That's the only reason I don't have a salad or anything on there but I guess I could add it?

Re: Help with NYD menu

  • Maybe not a full salad, but chopped carrots, cucumbers, broccoli, peppers for dipping?
  • I agree with pp, a veggie tray.
  • Def a veggie tray.  They have them for $7.99 in BJs with dip included if you are a member there. I think your menu is fine.

  • Ahh yes, a veggie tray.  I'll def do that.  Thanks!
  • Here's mine this year:

italian roast pork (with mini rolls)

    mac n cheese in crock

    hot dogs and sauerkraut

    tomato pie

and either vegetarian or  vegetable soup (whichever my friend decides to make)

then I will probably do hoagie dip and the girls are bringing bean salsa, spinach dip, canolli dip and I will have cookies and mini brownies

so many people come and go all night and usually bring food with them so I think this is more than enough. more importantly how much beer???  i think i need to grab a few cases besides the wine since its a very long night ahead of us

What about Champagne?  Need the bubbly to celebrate if the Jokers come in first again.....

  • Noooo! You can't skip pork! It brings good luck to start the new year with pork and sauerkraut!

    Yes

True. Hmm maybe I can make it the day before and then just reheat.  I'm trying to conserve time. Or do the hot dog thing - drunk people will love hot dogs, right?

Kel - your menu looks great.  The italian roast pork is a good one.  Instead of just deli roast beef in aus jus I was thinking about doing this recipe - http://thehappyhousewife.com/cooking/crock-pot-french-dip-sandwich/

Thought it might be something different.  What do you think?  I'm still trying to find the perfect beef recipe.

And for beer - I think the hubs has it covered. We have so much beer in our basement, it's ridiculous. I thought you were supposed to drink beer, not collect it I've told him.

I got a couple of bottles of bubbly for me -- I may need to run out and get more. DH's bday is the 30th, then NYE, then NYD.... it's going to be a long couple of days!

  • for parties, I usually just go to Dad's Stuffing and order the roast beef. they cook it fresh and give you a container of gravy for each pound. All you need to do is throw it in with the gravy and heat and it's delicious

We do a pork loin but if you go with hot dogs then get the mini pigs in a blanket. They're always a huge hit!

Is there some secret beer hoarding club that I don't know about? Because my hubs totally does this too!
