I ended up spending the day yesterday inputting most of my yarn into ravelry's stash (one more bin to go!)... it's wasn't too bad and I really like having the list without having to search through drawers and bins. I have everything sorted by fiber/material but was wondering if maybe I should sort by yarn weight. How do you organize yours?
And I really like adding photos to my stash but haven't been able to get a decent photo of my skeins. (Horrible lighting.) I've been using stock photos for most but can't find photos of some... yarns that have been discontinued, etc. What's the etiquette about using someone else's photo from their stash? Not at all? Ok if I ask first?
Re: More yarn questions
I thought about this but I don't know how to coerce DH into helping me move a room full of yarn to the backyard then back upstairs again. lol.
I organize by color
and by weight. It drives the lady at my LYS nuts. She hates to sort by color
I would ask about using someone's photo, just in case anyone is sensitive. Explain the situation and go from there. Can you take pictures of them outside?

I would definitely ask before using someone else's picture. I wouldn't say that it's frowned upon, but it is rather a sensitive issue.
Regarding yarn organization, I like to organize by weight, then fiber, then color family.

How do you know what you have of the same yarn if you organize by color? I would love to organize by color, especially with all the pretty color organization I see on pinterest, but I would forget what I have!
Emoflamingo, I tried aking them inside but right now all I have is my iPhone camera
and the colors are way off. I think I'll eventually take things outside when I find the motivation. Just inputting everything in ravelry was enough organization for awhile. (Yes, I'm lazy.)
