Help with menu for B's birthday

I can hardly believe he's going to be TWO a week from tomorrow! I'm throwing his party around 11AM on New Years Eve, and there will be about 10-12 people my (family and FF's family) there. It'll have a Seasame Street theme and I'm making cupcakes for dessert (decorated like the characters, of course!)

I don't know what to do for the food. I was thinking about a brunch (breakfast casserole, monkey bread, fruit, etc.) but that just doesn't sound appetizing to me. What are some good lunch options? My mom said I should make my potato soup and small sandwiches, but that doesn't seem very kid friendly (the soup).

Help! I'm a horrible party planner.

Re: Help with menu for B's birthday

  • Look at Annie's Eats Sesame St party for some ideas??? Gah, I can't make it hyperlink for some reason--  http://annies-eats.com/2011/06/23/andrews-third-birthday-party/

  • I think a couple types of sammiches and some warm sides would be good. You could always have soup because it freezes well if people don't want it.

I can't wait to see pictures and I CANNOT believe he is almost 2. He is such a handsome little guy Amanda!!!

  • How about Sloppy Jo sandwiches, potatoe salad/macaroni salad?

  • YAY! Sesame Street theme. I can tell you want we did for my niece's:

We did an elmo tray that had tomatoes, olives and carrots in shape of his face.

We did blueberries and blackberries for Cookie Monster

    Broccoli for Oscar the Grouch

oh and do not forget goldfish!

I would do a banner for Brody but I do not think it would get to you in time.

Take a look at my Pintrest Board that says Bristol's 1st bday for more ideas

  • What if you did the soup in little (disposable) shot glasses? That way it is easy to serve a crowd and if one of the kid spills it, it's just a shot glass vs a big bowl.

Also, you could always do a separate menu for the kids and adults. Soup and sandwiches for the adults, (kid) sandwiches and fruit or veggies for the kids?
